The short opens with Goofy (aka Mr. Geef) working hard at his desk in his office. He soon gets very hot and decides to open the door. A cold gust of wind comes in (by the way, it's obviously in the winter time since we see snow on a building). The screen then zooms in on Goofy's nose where we see a small white figure with a big red nose. It jumps onto Goofy's nose and infects him with that ever so famous cold virus. He sneezes away all his paperwork. After his boss orders him to go home, Goofy arrives feeling awful. We see that ice cubes form on his feet as he staggers into the bathroom to get some medicine that will make that big bad cold go away. As he pops a cold pill into his mouth, it comes right out, landing into a glass of water. As Goofy drinks the water trying to get the pill down his throat, he ends up with a cold pill in an empty glass of water. You don't suppose that the pills had a small fraction of rubber in them do ya?
Later, Goofy's wife comes home after playing bridge with a friend of hers. Goofy tries to explain to her that he has a cold, but she just keeps yakking on about what a show off one of her friends was. Finally she notices and drags her sick husband into the bedroom. Apparently there are two separated beds in there since the one Goofy is in looks only big enough for one person (and besides, this short was made in the 50's when people found it very offensive to see a couple in bed together). Mrs. Goofy does just about everything she can to fight the common cold. She wraps a heated pad around Goofy's neck, she sticks hot mustard on his chest (which has a tattoo similar to the one he accidentally got in "Father's Weekend"), she dumps cold pills down his mouth which was cut thanks to those little stinkers at the Disney Company.
Well, it's been about two weeks and Goofy is back at the office. Like the last time, he gets hot and opens a window. Sure enough, the little white guy with the red nose comes back. Goofy has another cold.
I can really relate well to this short. I just graduated from high school and I had about four colds my senior year. In fact one time when I was sick, I watched this short. Well here's some good advice to Goofy and the rest of you who had an encounter with the little white guy. Next time, in order to prevent a cold, increase your intake of Vitamin C and wash your hands frequently.
