I saw the snowman for the first time a few weeks ago thanks to thunderbean.  it is an odd cartoon, but it has become one of my favorites. the back story and time period that the cartoon was created in, only makes it more interesting.

the director who made this has a couple of other cartoons made around the same time under the same circumstances that i haven't seen yet, but hope they find their way onto a future thunderbean dvd release.

There is a DVD (PAL, region 2) out there now in Germany (after several years of delay) that collects some German animation from the Nazi period, among them Hans Fischerkoesen's "Der Schneemann" (sadly contains the well-known splice, the first line of the snowman's song is missing like in most versions), also his "Das dumme Gänslein"/"The Silly Goose" and the beautiful "Verwitterte Melodie"/"Weather-beaten Melody" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llVRtazEUIo  ). Also included are the rarely seen (for good reason, the films made me cringe) "Vom Bäumlein, das andere Blätter hat gewollt"/"The Tree that Wanted New Leaves" (dir.: Heinz Tischmeyer) and "Der Störenfried"/"The Troublemaker" (dir.: Hans Held). Man, Buzzy Boop should have been a 90's family film. It looks really fun, and Buzzy Boop is more playful. It would have made a great Paramount family film.


Forget  , I think Paramount should recognize Buzzy Boop!

What is the video source for this upload? "Jungle Jive" was never included on either volume of the "Woody Woodpecker and Friends Classic Cartoon Collection" DVD set. The only upload I had been able to find previously on YouTube was a brief excerpt containing the piano sequence... and that was pretty low-quality. Were complete episodes of "The Woody Woodpecker Show" released as part of that earlier series from Columbia House?

No matter... it's great to have such a good-looking copy of the cartoon finally available. Another episode has the cartoon, "Three Lazy Mice" (which previously had only been on YouTube in a version dubbed in Portuguese).

Actually, "Three Lazy Mice" was posted before in English (although the video was film on a wide-screen TV) on Flipside's older Youtube channel.
