No planned Columbia set that I've ever heard of. But if there ever is one, this cartoon is a shoe-in.

For the most part, Columbia was just not competitive with Disney, Warners, MGM, or Fleischer/Famous. Heck, I don't really think they were competitive with Lantz or Terrytoons. But "Little Match Girl" is truly a great cartoon!

Emery Hawkings animated most of this cartoon. I think shots where the girl's eyes have a lot of detail are his scenes.

Davis is often said to be this short's director, but Davis told Mike Barrier Sid Marcus handled this short.

Anyone know the lyrics to the song heard at the end of the short?

I always found the shot of the girl walking alone in the snowstorm, with ghostly heads of the town people laughing hysterically incredibly eerie.

Oh yeah, this is my favorite Columbia short ever.

Now that I can see the detail thanks to the Thunderbean disk - yeah - there's some real cruelty in this short.  Who laughs at a barefoot little girl stumbling through the show on New Years Eve?  Several people in the opening scene went out of their way to scare her away.  Wow.  While part of me can see how that would happen, I find it hard to believe NYC'ers were really that cruel back then.
