"Boo Moon" on 3-D Blu-ray
« on: November 24, 2014, 10:30:36 pm »
3-D film historian and archivist Bob Furmanek and his 3-D Film Archive have been working on a new Blu-ray 3D set of rare 3-D short films, called "3-D Rarities", set to be released by Flicker Alley in June 2015. Included on the set will be the 1954 Paramount 3-D Casper cartoon Boo Moon, restored from original 35mm Technicolor left and right prints and presented in its original widescreen format.

Well that's good news! We can't wait to see the original opening and closing Paramount titles for this cartoon.
I'm not just a fan of classic golden age animation, I'm also a fan of video games, anime, and modern animation (both 2D and CGI animation).

Hey, you know it is public domain.  He can do it.  You know just because it's public domain doesn't mean it's bad.  We think that because of the crappy releases over the years.  Now people like Steve Stanchfield are stepping up able to do restorations.

Finally, another color Paramount/Famous cartoon beautifully restored! Only bummer is that it's going to be matted in widescreen (though optionally per the norm for a post-53 toon).

Will "Lumber-Jack Rabbit" or "Popeye, the Ace of Space" be on it?

I doubt, because this is not being released by WB.

Plus Lumber Jack Rabbit is still copyrighted.

As well as Popeye, the Ace of Space.

This cartoon was made for widescreen and shown that way in its original release (same for Popeye, the Ace of Space). They're doing nothing wrong by being faithful to that on this set. It would be nice to have a full-frame copy as an extra, but it's not a big deal.

You'd think that WB could have put "Lumber Jack Rabbit" on the 3D Blu-ray of House of Wax or Dial M for Murder as a bonus feature.

Well, Lumber Jack-Rabbit actually premiered with a 3D Western film called The Moonlighter.
