Halloween Cartoons
« on: October 29, 2011, 08:04:26 pm »
Well, since there's some need for content, I figured I'd add some.  I've got a TV and a computer with a kid glued to each right now watching my Halloween playlist - so why not share some of that?

I'll start with one of my favorites.  Though not obscure in the least, this used to run every year on ABC's Sunday night Disney show right around Halloween back in the 70's & early 80's (perhaps earlier, but that's as far back as I remember).

Disney's The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow:

It seems a make a Halloween DVD every year and the next I seem to have lost it.  Guess I better make one tomorrow, I'll post the list when it's done.

Thanks to galleon downloads to the tivo in the one room, and a letterbombed wii with wiimc in the other, I just amass the video files on my media drive and send the playlists to either system sans DVD.

Here's another classic along the same lines:  Iwerks' ComiColor The Headless Horseman with Carl Stalling's music:

I've been watching the recent Casper the Friendly Ghost DVD set for Halloween themed entertainment.  Good for those of us who prefer our spooks on the mild side.

I have always considered the "Ichabod" side of Ichabod & Mr. Toad to be a great Halloween cartoon.

A few more off the top of my head:
"Lonesome Ghosts" (Mickey Mouse)
"Runaway Brain" (Mickey Mouse)
"Skeleton Dance" (Silly Symphonies)
"Shiver Me Timbers" (Popeye)
"Ghosks Is the Bunk" (Popeye)
"Who Killed Who" (Tex Avery)
"Broomstick Bunny" (Bugs Bunny)
"Transylvania 6-5000" (Bugs Bunny)
"Frankenstein's Cat" (Mighty Mouse)
"Always pleasant journey which ends among old friends." - The Hon. Charles Chan, American Law Enforcement Figure & Philosopher

Mickey Mouse's "The Mad Doctor" is one of my all-time favorite Mickey shorts and a great one for Halloween.

Just for creepiness alone, I'd have to submit my favorite (and the one that scared me when I was a kid), UPA's version of "The Tell Tale Heart."

The Mad Doctor reminded me of this Looney Tune, Pigs Is Pigs:

Ironic with a good amount of creepiness...
