Yup, this has become a very serious problem, remember that this was the cause why Jon ended the old "registration process" long ago, and we don't know what effect this action will have in the entry of new members to the forum. This is an issue which needs the attention of all of us here.

Foistly, this topic really didn't belong in a forum about Television animation, so I've moved it appropriately.

Secondly, I've been running and participating in message boards for the past 14 years in one aspect or another. The sad fact of the matter is that spammers are a fact of life, and the more you let them get to you, the greater a problem they will be. They only have as much power over you as you let them exert.

Regardless of that, we are on top of the problem. There is no way that doesn't require a great deal of work on my part to get rid of them completely, but we have already banned quite a few behind the scenes which never got the chance to peddle their wares. I have even institued a few IP bans which I hope don't interfere with more innocent posters. We will deal with it as they come along.

But honestly, for being such an extreme problem, I've only gotten one report. See that little link at the bottom of each post that says "Report to moderator"? That's how you should be reporting spam and will get my attention quicker. My e-mail box is open pretty much all day and that gets sent to me right away rather than whenever I can get back to the board. Posting an alert in 48 point type is not the way to deal with it and, in the long run, makes me take you less seriously. It makes me picture someone running around the room in circles, hands and arms flapping away, screaming about the end of the world about a problem that can be taken care of calmly, quietly, peacefully, and behind the scenes if it were dealt with properly.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, some people tend to overreact to things and really should learn how to approach such  problems in a more sensible and mature manner.

I agree with eutychus, if anyone here sees someone spamming... they should simply report it in the recommended fashion and then move on. Let the admins handle it, and don't get bent out of shape.

Well, I expect that things will get better with D. Dodgers as moderator.

I hate to be a rat but guess what is happening now at the TV section.

I never get tired of that one! Once, while in Dublin... I saw a guy dressed in a Viking outfit and a sandwich board for a local fish & chips place. I asked him if they serve Spam and he looked at me like I was crazy!

Little by little Monty Python gets erased from our collective memory. It's 40 years old and there are lots of people who have never seen them except for the movies.

Not to worry... I followed protocol and reported it as spam.

I hope you still have some cheese around because the ads have expanded to "TTTP in Exile". Yes, it's definitive. We have to figure out how to get rid of the spammers without curtailing the entry of new users who really appreciate animation. Not only Eutychus and Duck Dodgers.

I think he's returning the Christmas gifts as he mentioned in another thread.

P.S.: Happy Thanksgiving!

New forum growing pains.  Just ignore it and the mods will make it go away. (maybe with a twister punch) :popeye:
