TTTP In Exile / !!! The IAD Forums Will Be Moving !!!
« on: December 13, 2014, 01:01:44 pm »
As noted earlier, because of technical problems with the current software, the IAD Forums will be moving to a new home, probably the first week in January.

This is the temporary URL: http://toonscoop.com/forum/Forum.aspx

If you haven't registered there yet, it's best that you do so as soon as possible so there is no confusion once we flip the switch. The conversions are almost done. I just have some small technical issues to deal with and, of course, waiting for the Holidays to be over so I don't disrupt any party threads. And to make sure I have the time to watch it for the first few weeks.

Any problems, please let me know! Thanks!

TTTP In Exile / Apologies
« on: October 13, 2014, 06:41:40 am »
My apologies for not getting much done on the site lately. I've been in and out of the hospital (and may have to go back again) with kidney stones and a kidney infection which has laid me up pretty well this last week. Please be patient which I heal.

TTTP In Exile / !!! Important Announcement !!!
« on: September 13, 2014, 05:41:06 am »
Dear Friends,

With the continuing technical problems we've had with this board and the inability of the software creators to supply solutions, I've been thinking about moving to different software. We still have those persistent login in failures from time to time and now the email system has started to fail as well. I've installed a new system at a different URL and I'd like you to try it out.

The plus side: It's written in the same code (ASP.NET) that the main site is written in which means that we'll be able to integrate the message board with the main site. That means you won't have to have one set of login credentials for the board and one for the site. It will all be integrated together.

The down side: I probably will not be able to export posts here to the new board. That may have to be done manually, if at all. I will, of course, move the more important ones; the filmographies and such.

I'm hoping that this will cure some of the problems we've had. This is just set up as a trial basis right now to give everyone a chance to play with it and tell me what they think. Better? Worse? Like it? Don't like it? Whatever!

The new board is at http://toonscoop.com/forum/Forum.aspx. Don't get used to that ... if this works out, we'll port everything back over here. But sign up, try it out, play with it a bit ... let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Patrick

TTTP In Exile / In Your Wildest Dreams ...

What would you like the Internet Animation Database to do next?

Granted, we still have a ton of work to do, but things are rolling along well, and we've had a ton of contributions lately, but I'm feeling it might be time to take things to the next level.

So, what would you like to see us do next? It might be something simple ... or it may be some grandiose idea that you've had that you'd like to see implemented.

Don't be afraid to go a little crazy. What should be our next step?

TTTP In Exile / The Internet Animation Database needs you!

The Internet Animation Database needs you!

When I first envisioned this project, I saw it as a social project much in the style of The Internet Movie Database. There’s just too much information out there to be entered and collated for one person. Right now, there are three ways that you can help:

1: Become a researcher!

We’re always looking for people who are either knowledgeable about animation or have access to studio records to help us find information. This can be as simple as having video copies where credits can be found. We’re trying to make our entries as complete as possible, so there’s a lot of work to be done. Right now, I’m also interested in fans who can submit synopsis for individual works. If you’re interested, please drop me a line and let’s talk.

2: Submit screenshots!

One of my major goals is to have screenshots for as many works as possible. You don’t have to edit the pics, we’ll do that here. But we would like large video captures to work with at at least DVD quality. We know that existing copies of many early works are of differing qualities, so we’re reasonable about letting things like that slide a bit. If this sounds like something you’d like to get involved with, please let me know.

3: Submit comments!

When I first started The Encyclopedia of Disney Animated Shorts, Mike Barrier commented that one of the things that set it apart was that it wasn’t just dry data, but included comments from viewers about each short. This is pretty much standard operating procedure for any website nowadays, so let’s continue the trend at the IAD. Let us know what you think about your favorite shorts – what you like, what you don’t like, why it’s important – anything you might bring to the table.

One thing I’m working on right now for signed in users is the ability to keep track of what cartoon are in you collection on the site itself. This will include any of your own homebrewed videos as well.

As always, if you have any ideas or questions, please let me know. We want to turn this into the premiere source for animation on the web!

Thanks,

TTTP In Exile / News You Can Use
« on: May 17, 2014, 07:55:33 am »
1: It came to my attention that the "comments" section of the website was broken and no one could submit comments without breaking the whole site. This has been corrected and comments on any cartoon can now be submitted. Knock 'em dead.

2: Steve Stanchfield has graciously donated some Thunderbird DVDs for prizes in upcoming contests, so we will be running an "UGLY MGM POSTER" contest soon, Stay tooned for details.
