What you won't see on the new Olive Films Blu-ray :betty::

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TkvlFqieH8

I always thought the pre-code Boops had a special opening where the logo turns into the title card, but looking at 9.5 mm home movie prints, I am proven wrong. It's just a dissolve. The scarcity of the original Paramount titles by UM&M/NTA has caused the imagination to come up with special opening the Fleischer editors and cameramen never thought possible when these were orginally made.

I hope Olive includes these as a bonus feature in the upcoming releases.    I just popped in my Popeye Volume 1 DVD and they jump cut to the original title from the mountain logo.  It's pretty much as close as we are going to get.

The show description doesn't mention anything about DVD news, but I went ahead and asked about the 1960's Batman shows out of curiosity just in case.

Both the 1960s live action and cartoon Batman will be out this summer.

A UPA industrial/educational/ad set would be awesome!

So far, it's a good collection.  The restoration has been superb. The extras are great!

Flat Hatting, the second cartoon made by what was to become UPA.

Not to throw a damper on anyone's wishes, but Steve stated project # 2 had never been released on "any home video format." That would definitely eliminate CRUSADER RABBIT. Several adventures were released by Rhino Home Video on VHS (I still have the tapes).

Probably also eliminates CALVIN & THE COLONEL as multiple episodes of that show have turned up on a variety of PD discs over the years.

I have to admit that I was thinking of TOM TERRIFIC when I read that blurb.

Calvin and the Colonel isn't PD as the Kayro library is owned by NBCUniversal, I sure hope Steve has done hardballing to get to do a complete series set

We're more likely to see a release by Shout! or Universal of that material.

Commonwealth Pictures bought the Ub Iwerks and Rainbow Parade libraries for reissue.  That material is now owned by Film Preservation Associates.  There was a DVD release of these cartoons a few years ago.  That would probably be why it is a Blu-Ray DVD combo.

The Complete ComiColor with commentary by Leslie Iwerks?

Also lots of animated advertising from dairy boards and American Dairy Associaion on one disc?

Film Preservation Associates owns the Comicolor negatives.   An official DVD release occurred of the Comicolor cartoons. "Cartoons That Time Forgot".

The bonus features are something to behold, especially the radio broadcast and original soundtrack.  Where did you obtain that broadcast from? I was expecting some restoration of the Gabby cartoons though.

Bimbo's Initiation appeared on the Blu-Ray with a restored Paramount logo, but UM&M. copyright byline.   Maybe, they are listening to us about the restorations a bit.

I was quite pleased with the set.   Wish there were bonus features though.   Hopefully, we will be able to see the original openings in a future volume.   However, the Paramount logo is on the box.   Hope the set does great, as it may be the step in the right direction for other sets in the future.

Some Betty Boop cartoons do circulate with Paramount copyrights on some prints and UM&M. copyrights on the TV prints.   If only UM&M. hadn't cut out the logos from the original negatives.

If Puppetoons and Betty Boop do well, maybe Thunderbean will work a sub license deal with Paramount.
