The humor of these cartoons is mental-ward schizophrenic... I never feel comfortable watching these Jam Handy cartoons because of that. Great when they have Jim Tyer animation (which this one doesn't, alas)...

I agree with Thad that you can basically toss discs 2 and 3. All the truly great UPA cartoons are on disc 1. UPA becomes as formula-based as Famous Studios after peaking with ROOTY TOOT TOOT.

Well, the bad guys killed Megaupload today. I'm glad I got that Woody Woodpecker video while it was still possible.

The same YouTuber also offers a number of oddball b/w Columbia Phantasies, including the notorious MASS MOUSE MEETING:

Leonard Maltin was wrong; he just didn't get the subtle vibe of these off-the-wall Columbia cartoons. This, and GIDDY YAPPING, are much better than he'd have you believe. They are WTF Cartooning of a high order.

Just watched the three 1948 French Coke ads on YooToob. They look like the later Dick Lundy unit, with some of the wayward Disney animators on board. Is that an accurate assessment?

Hi gang,

You can also post to the Intellitoons forum, an unfiltered message board moderated by Tom Stathes and myself.

http://s1.zetaboards.com/Intellitoons_Forum/index/

I'll have to sign up there, too.

I hope we can return to some kind of standard of intelligent conversation about animated cartoons. IMHO, the quality of the posts really declined at TTTP, post-2009.

Glad to be here and best wishes for this new forum!

Frank
