General Discussion / Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol on CW/WPIX talkback
« on: December 19, 2014, 07:28:05 pm »
Tonight's the night that Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol is airing on CW/WPIX at 8pm (in t-minus 33 minutes and counting!)! To remind you, it's running for a good 90 minutes which means (unlike the bittersweet NBC airing 2 years ago) there should be no cuts whatsoever! I'll update this post with my review of the airing and you do the same. :)

By 8pm tonight Magoo's is gonna be back, back, back on TV!

UPDATE: OK, all finished and.....IT WAS UNCUT (99.99%)!!!! Everything was there! The only things that were missing (let me finish, nothing bad!) Was the Ghost of Christmas Past's one line "Come." after she says "My time grows short." (like in the NBC broadcast) and a shot of Brady or James inhaling some snuff. The audio is intact, but the shot is replaced by the same shot of Brady, James and the other gentlemen laughing as Scrooge and the Ghost of Christmas Future enter the scene. That's it! Everything else intact! Now THIS is how it's done!!! Bless you DreamWorks, bless you CW for doing it right! One word; Perfect.  :magoo:

UPDATE: Another omission of dialogue (still, nothing to really fret over): It appears that in addition to what I mention, another line of dialogue was cut (not that big though):

Another PD cartoon saved by the Library of Congress! And just in time for Christmas!:

TTTP In Exile / Lost Oswald cartoon Empty Socks FOUND!!!!
« on: December 11, 2014, 06:56:36 pm »

"A copy of a 1927 Walt Disney cartoon which was thought to be lost has been found in northern Norway, the country's National Library said Thursday.
The film -- an almost complete version of "Empty Socks", the first Christmas film by the US entertainment giant -- was discovered during an inventory at the library's facility in Mo i Rana, near the Arctic circle.
"At the beginning, we didn't know it was a lost cinematographic treasure," Kvale Soerenssen, an archivist at the library, said in a statement.
"The film was in two reels which weren't clearly labelled."
The original version of "Empty Socks" had a duration of 5:30 minutes, but between 30 and 60 seconds from the central part were missing in the footage found in Norway, which was authenticated by Disney cartoonist David Gerstein.

The film stars Oswald, the Lucky Rabbit, a predecessor of Mickey Mouse who appeared in 26 movies by Walt Disney and his countryman Ub Iwerks.
The National Library said it had digitised it and sent a copy to The Walt Disney Company.
Before this find, the only known copy of "Empty Socks" was a 25-second sequence preserved at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
The Norwegian film originally belonged to a private individual, before ending up in the collection of the Norwegian Film Institute, which handed over its archive to the National Library of Norway.
Most of the library's works and documents are kept in a high-security bunker in Mo i Rana.
According to Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten, the nitrocellulose reels -- a highly flammable compound -- are stored in a room with controlled temperature and humidity.
The National Library has launched a large digitisation project to make its collection more accessible, which has helped discover lost documents."

General Discussion / South Park does more Looney Tunes and Wacky Races!!!
« on: October 15, 2014, 10:42:32 pm »
So if you haven't seen tonight's South Park (which IMO, was the best episode this season!), they had Nathan and Mimsy again so you know what that means; more shenanigans Looney Tunes style. But that's not all, around act 2 through act 3, they were doing a parody of Wacky Races and the Saturday Morning Cartoon phenomenon (which though some say are no longer with us, there's still NBC, Nick, Cartoon Network, Disney, etc.). So yeah, hilarious episode. :P

Any of you guys seen it and what did you think?

I was gonna post this in the GC V2 topic, but I decided to give this its own topic since it has more relevance. So anyway, last night while I was searching the web for Tom and Jerry: Santa's Little Helper, I came across a clip of one of the shorts that was included and lo and behold it was a new remastered print! In fact, all the classic shorts on this release are remastered! See for yourself!:

The Little Runaway:

Jerry and The Goldfish:

The Flying Cat:

Now I got the release today and confirm 2 other things; the CinemaScope shorts unfortunately are pan-and-scanned, BUT there sourced from the remastered prints and 2 Chuck Jones shorts are also included and are also remastered (though probably from the Chuck Jones Collection, note sure) and in their original full screen formats!!! So I guess you can say, this is worth a double dip.

Your thoughts?
