(with a review of the new UPA Studios book), feature films just released and upcoming, with comments on "The Lorax"
and "John Carter", and of course, the latest in DVD releases (thoughts on the new Noveltoons disc, Tennessee Tuxedo,
Underdog, UPA Jolly Frolics, and The Complete Mister Magoo box sets)...plus news about new boxes coming
out this year, and maybe - time-permitting - a continuation of his history on the Terrytoons cartoon studio (yup, sure).

Tomorrow's the show fellas, who will do the honors of doing the traditional rundown of Jerry's appearance on the show?
-
I guess I can do it.
-
I guess I can do it.
Don't feel obligated that you have to though. I could always do it; I've done it in the past on GAC and here, only because I enjoy giving info.
But if you can do it, go right ahead.
-
E-mailed my questions! Hope you'll be doing the same.
-
E-mailed my questions! Hope you'll be doing the same.
I e-mailed mine regarding the Magoo Theatrical Set as well as my 2 cents on John Carter
-
I hope someone brings up Popeye or Woody, I'd take anything at this point.
:woody: :popeye:
-
IT'S STARTING!!!!
Daffy's Rhapsody is playing (just as I thought)! ;D
-
And Bradon got served by Stu. Ouch. Sorry that had to happened.
-
Am I the only one who wishes Stu would STOP SHOUTING INTO THE MIKE???????
-
Am I the only one who wishes Stu would STOP SHOUTING INTO THE MIKE???????
No, no you're not.
-
Well, at least Jerry mentioned that there's still **one** Terrytoons short with life in it ("Flebus").
-
Another CGI Roadrunner is in the works! :roadrunner: :coyote:
-
And Brandon got served by Stu. Ouch. Sorry that had to happened.
Exactly why I never call or send e-mails ... I suspect that somewhere along the line, Jerry owes me one big time! :o (just kidding)
-
Gay Purr-ee has already been available on DVD, but not thru Warner Archive.
-
Another CGI Roadrunner is in the works! :roadrunner: :coyote:
And more shorts based off Mel Blanc records.
I don't know whether to be amused or offended that I got called "a little sh*t" on live radio.
-
Jerry sez if the UPA set sells well, we MIGHT see more Columbia cartoons in the future! :fox: :crow:
-
Nitpicking time: Apparently, one or the other of these guys forgot that the Fox & Crow cartoons in fact appeared as filler on NBC's Ruff & Reddy and (briefly) King Leonardo shows. Shari Lewis with cartoons? Never likely.
-
The next LT PC is scheduled for Blu-ray and DVD for December and here's a hint from Jerry; Disc 2 will have The Complete A. Flea (meaning An Itch In Time)!
-
Looney Tunes Super Stars will continue with 2 new releases this and next year; One this summer and one in November!
-
The next LT PC is scheduled for Blu-ray and DVD for December and here's a hint from Jerry; Disc 2 will have The Complete A. Flea (meaning An Itch In Time)!
And "A Horsefly Fleas", I guess.
Unless..... Jerry means "An Itch In Time" has its original titles now...
-
Whoa. Stu sure has been blowing his stack for the last few minutes.
-
Appearently, it was you complaining fans that the reason why we are getting a standard DVD version of Looney Tunes Platnum (and other volumes). Why am I not surrprise? Seriously, I think we need to keep cool sometimes.
And both "Food Around the Corner" flea cartoons will be on Looney Tunes Platnum Vol. 2.

After about 20 minutes of listening to this week's program, I stopped listening after the host started using the term "F-ing". The last time I listened to the program was during the last visit by Jerry Beck, who used some rough language back then.
-
Jerry sez the Censored 11 is still on the books.
-
Censord 11 cartoons still on the pipes.

Why
-
I just cannot stand rude language during discussion programs. It's unnecessary.
-
Yeah but WHY.
-
HOLY SHIT HARE UM SCARE UM UNCUT, PLATINUM VOL. 2
-
Nice to get a mention... ;)
-
Jerry will possibly look at the negative for Popeye and The Pirates. Hint, hint. ;)
-
From what Jerry's heard, 1001 Arabian Nights will be on the Magoo theatrical set.
-
Rudeness can be tiresome and distracting in a discussion that should be civil. After years of writing about a local radio program and finally stopping due to the rudeness, I just cannot stand for anymore. I don't mind missing anything great in between the talk I dislike; I would just look elsewhere.
-
"Pretty good news for cartoons in the Archive series" Jerry says... ;)
-
T&J GC series is going to include the Gene Deitch and Chuck Jones series!!! Hooray! ;D
-
HEY it's ParamountCartoons!
-
Sounds like they just hosed Ray Pointer when he tried to get a call in...
-
As this was the most disjointed coverage of a Jerry-on-Stu show yet, I guess I'll pony up the 99 cents and listen. At least that way I can skip over those godawful retro-TV DVD spots.
Having been censored on broadcast radio myself, I am happy to hear "fuck" being uttered in the course of conversation. That's how people talk.
-
I didn't get to listen to the show, but can someone give more details on the tom and jerry sets, like if there is an estimated release date.
-
Vol. 2 should be out next year (2013).
-
With that kind of delay, I better not hear the vaguest rumor of Eastmancolor.
-
Vol. 2 should be out next year (2013).
We gotta wait til next year?! :grumble:
-
"Pretty good news for cartoons in the Archive series" Jerry says... ;)
Not if that means DVD-Rs.
Was anything mentioned about a new collectors series for the LTs?
-
Jerry will possibly look at the negative for Popeye and The Pirates. Hint, hint. ;)
Thad mentioned he already looked at an original film print (not an AAP print), and it has the same cut.
Hey, my 100th post!
-

Hey, my 100th post!
That cut they mention seems a lot like the sloppy Production Code edit in "Baby Bottleneck" with the cut after the sow stops the baby alligator. The sow is moving her lips about to say something but is cut before any audio is heard. Like that one, it must have been removed at the last minute before wide release.
Hopefully the un-edited Popeye footage still exists somewhere.

I was talking about the possibility of a Famous Studios Popeye collection.

I should've said this before but, Jerry said that Steve Stanchfield is working on a Felix The Cat release. Am I getting that right?

That would be great, but I think that he has to cooperate with Don Oriolo on this.
-
It was nice to get some shout out for Thunderbean on the show.
There are no official announcements about a project related to any certain black cats, but if there were they would involve
Felix the Cat productions.

Would be great if something appeared in the future. My collection of Felix Cartoons is scattered over 6 public domain and 5 home brew dvd's with double dipping.
-
Would someone kindly provide a rundown of the highlights and news? Thanks! :)
-
To wit:
-Looney Tunes Platinum Collection Volume 2 scheduled for both Blu-ray and DVD this December. It will include The Complete A. Flea (An Itch In Time and A Horsefly Fleas), Hare-Um Scare-Um with it's complete ending, and from WB's Facebook, voters have selected Wabbit Twouble to be one of the cartoons on this set.
-Jerry says he'll look at the negative to Popeye and The Pirates (possible Famous Studios Popeye set hint)
-Not set in stone, still in the planning stages, the LT SS release for this summer will be focusing on mice cartoons by Chuck Jones (Sniffles, Hubie and Bertie).
-LT SS to continue (almost got the boot) with 2 releases this and next year!
-Tom and Jerry Golden Collection Volume 2 scheduled for next year (and we all know that it will contain Mouse Cleaning with it's original titles)
-The T&J GC series will include the Gene Deitch and Chuck Jones entries!
-As far as Jerry knows, 1001 Arabian Nights will be on the Mr. Magoo Theatrical Collection
-There will be some cartoons shown at the Paramount 100th Anniversary screening (at least I got the gist of it) and might be a perfect oppurtunity to get official releases of the cartoons Paramount owns
-Rumour has it, Steve is working on a Felix set according to Jerry (nothing official, just a rumour and like Steve said, if it happens, it would involve Felix The Cat productions)
-If the UPA set sells well (which it will) we could see more collections of the Columbia cartoons (maybe even Fox and Crow) through TCM.
-There are plans for animation for the Warner Archive...
-I myself passed along an idea for a Cats Don't Dance 15th AE. Can't confirm or deny if this will come to fruition though.
-From Thad, Popeye and The Pirates has had the abrupt cut since it first premiered in theaters (he has the original Nitrate, non AAP, negative to confirm this)
-Censored 11 is still on the books (and I do agree, it would make a wonderful teaching tool for children/schools)
I believe that's it.
-
^ Well there is a Cat in the Hat movie in production (thank goodness), and the Chuck Jones Mice might have been confirmed.
-
And I also emailed (orginally it was a bad voice mail question) about the possibility of Warners to open another video player site to rival Hulu. I don't know if Warners will ever try again.
-
-From Thad, Popeye and The Pirates has had the abrupt cut since it first premiered in theaters (he has the original Nitrate, non AAP, negative to confirm this)
Wait, he has the actual negative?! Or did you mean an original theatrical release print?
-
Thad and I inspected a 1940s theatrical nitrate print. It included the abrupt cut.
But—that said, who knows whether an (earlier?) negative might contain something that this print did not. It shouldn't be the last word on the matter.
-
Thanks for the recap Toonatic!
...It'd be nice if they'd put all those Jones' toons with Hubie & Bert & Claude & Marc Anthony & Pussyfoot & Frisky Pup together....
...did they ever say why "The Complete Marc Anthony didn't include Cat Feud ?
-
...did they ever say why "The Complete Marc Anthony didn't include Cat Feud ?
No, he didn't. Nobody mentioned that in their emails.
-
Because Cat Feud features a different dog (albeit same design as Marc Anthony, but it isn't Marc Anthony). They probably should've called it "The Complete Pussyfoot" so the short could be included.
-
You're right - that dog was kinda "UPA-Anthony"...it must've been the clawing up the back gag that threw me! ;D
-
The Academy Award winning John & Faith Hubley short with music by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, mentioned by Jerry. Stu said he loves the band's music but was unaware there was a cartoon.
Neither was I, nor many others I'd guess.

-
I wonder what that collection of mice shorts will be called. Snffles & Friends? Chuck Jones Mouse Cartoons?
It's good that we might be getting more minor and one-shot characters on a DVD, but if it's all Chuck Jones, I guess that means no Speedy and Daffy.
-
You know Thad, you should probably lend your print of House Hunting Mice with its original titles to Jerry so we can finally see them on DVD. ;)
Though the Mice set is not set in stone.
-
I wonder if they have other Super Star ideas in mind, in case the mice DVD gets rejected. I wonder how much time is usually spent on restoring cartoons. Though they could just release a set of only double-dipping from the Golden Collections... But I hope they don't do that (though ONLY double dipping is better than mixing double dipped cartoons with unreleased shorts).
I wonder if there is any way they could release a single DVD with all the restored cartoons from the Platinum Collection, so that people who have all the Golden Collections and Super Stars can have them on DVD without having to buy the Platinum. I'd also be content with the shorts restored for the Academy Awards set (A Wild Hare and Hawiatha's Rabbit Hunt... did that set restore any other WB shorts not on the Golden Collections?). Also Porky's Duck Hunt, though I don't know whether that was restored for The Essential Daffy Duck (I've read a few reviews and I STILL don't know if it was restored).
-

It was restored. It generally looks very good.

Did Jerry or Stu give the date for Jerry's next radio interview here?
-
Hi, everyone. I tend to lurk in the shadows, reading the IAD forums everyday, but as you can see, I do not log on and say much. But, I’ve talked about this one point I’m going to bring up before in other venues.
In spite of the prints floating around out there, somewhere, someplace there has to exist a complete print of “Popeye and the Pirates”. I remember this cartoon and the missing scene as if it were yesterday. Mayor Art on KRON TV Channel 4 in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1950's would show this cartoon intact. This is how the scene would go:
After Popeye, disguised as a female, thought he took care of the Pirate Captain, he starts removing his disguise. The present day cut starts as Popeye reaches down the front of his dress to remove his "bosom". In the now missing part, he pulls out a black barbell - two small cannonballs with a bar in-between them. He tosses the barbell over his shoulder after tossing his hat and shoes, etc., but then there is a quick pan and a cutaway to the Pirate Captain who has gotten the barbell thrown into his mouth!! When the cartoon resumes after the cut, one can briefly see that is what happened, with the Pirate Captain's mouth and cheeks puffed out, with Popeye doing his "oh, no" take, running, etc. Now that you know how that scene went, this information will totally make sense when you see the cartoon once again.
As a 7 year old, I thought that scene was funny. (And I am certainly not corrupted today!) When KBHK TV Channel 44 in San Francisco started showing the Popeye cartoons in the 1960’s, that scene was cut out like it is now. At that time, I thought the channel did the cutting. When I moved from the Bay Area in 1978, the Sacramento TV Station KTXL Channel 40 was playing it with that same scene cut, also. These stations were still using 16mm prints at that time. I am guessing the distributors to the stations did the editing in those packages, with prints now all having that cut.
:popeye:
-
The only other instance of aap getting the original version of a cartoon is Bugs Bunny Rides Again and its "Mahatma Ghandi" line, but it was aired by every station that had the a.a.p. package, not just select ones for a certain period of time. I'm not doubting Craig's memory, but for the original scene to surface in the print sent out to one TV station in California is pretty extraordinary.

Did Jerry or Stu give the date for Jerry's next radio interview here?
From what I've heard, in June.
