Milestones

  • First time that Disney and Warner Bros. characters appear on-screen together.

Trivia

  • Based on the novel Who Censored Roger Rabbit? by Gary K. Wolf.
  • According to Mark Kausler, Chuck Jones originally storyboarded the Donald Duck and Daffy Duck piano duel, but director Robert Zemeckis wasn't fond of them. Kausler and Joe Ranft reboarded the sequence to what is seen in the final film.
  • At an estimated budget of $70 Million, this was the most expensive film of the 1980's produced. It also had the longest on-screen credits for a film.
  • Among the actors that were considered for the role of Eddie Valiant were Dan Aykroyd, Robin Williams, Rowan Atkinson, Charles Grodin, Robert Redford, Harrison Ford (Steven Spielberg first choice for the character, but his price was too high), Sylvester Stallone, Jack Nicholson, Ed Harris, Steve Martin, Leslie Nielsen, Wallace Shawn, Eddie Murphy, Chevy Chase, Danny DeVito, John Travolta, Tom Hanks, Mickey Rourke, Richard Gere, Michael Keaton, Dudley Moore, Michael Biehn, Gene Hackman, Joe Pesci, Robert De Niro, kurt Russell, and Bill Murray. Robert Zemeckis recounts that he had stated in a newspaper interview that Bill Murray who was director Robert Zemeckis and executive producer Steven Spielberg's original choice for the role (according to a statement in a newspaper), but neither could get in contact with him in time. Bill Murray stated when he read the interview, he was in a public place, but he still screamed his lungs out, because he would have definitely accepted the role. In addition, Don Lane and Peter Renaday auditioned for the role. The latter in the test footage with an animated Jessica Rabbit (animated by Darrell Van Citters), resembled Eddie Valiant as he appeared in Gary K. Wolf's book: slender and with a beard.
  • Among the considerations for Judge Doom were Jon Voight, Robin Williams, Sting, Roddy McDowall, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Sir Christopher Lee who turned down the role. In addition, Tim Curry auditioned for the role but Robert Zemeckis, Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and Michael Eisner found his performance quite terrifying.
  • Paul Reubens and Eddie Deezen were considered for the voice of Roger Rabbit.
