From Samuel E. Lago :

A recent 20-odd minute film featuring Mickey, Donald and Goofy and Pete. It was a nice film that tried to live up to the 1930's cartoon feel. It simply did not. It lacks the innocent humor of that time and the jovial fun of it's characters.

From Rich :

I disagree with Samuel E. Lago. I think this short was very well done and was probably Mickey's best starring role. Unlike his last few shorts of the 50's, where he was mainly in the background and having an entire cartoon, with his name gracing the opening titles, revolve around a whole different character (Example; Pluto), he is here given a role that he played very as opposed to having just another short like Steamboat Willie, Jungle Rhythm, The Jazz Fool, or The Opry House, in which he just played music in clever and various ways. I saw this short when it first came out in theaters in 1990, and I still remember almost every minute of it. If you're a die-hard Disney fan, this is one short you have to see. It's worth it.

From Youno :

This is one of the best cartoons ever made by Disney! The story is so funny, the plot is very interesting and the screenplay is absolutely wonderful. This one reminds me my very early childhood, maybe that's why I simply love this short.

From Baruch Weiss :

Here is a classic story told with a Disney twist! I love it very much and still do today. In fact, I watch every Thanksgiving. I have it on video cassette and on Mickey Mouse in Living Color Volume 2. It is a great cartoon with great music, background art and animation and familiar Disney characters.

From Jamie Gaerlan :

I've always loved this cartoon. I love the quality of the animation and the values that a child can learn while enjoying watching it. I would love to pass it down to my children someday. Thanks ... more power to Disney!!

From Billy Joe :

This is the second Mickey Mouse featurette to be based off of classic literature. This film is defintely worth watching. It has fun songs, and quality animation. I like how the cartoon opened with a "real" book, just like in the old animated Disney features.

Since Mickey's Christmas Carol was released along with a re-issue of "The Rescuers", The Prince and the Pauper was released with the sequel "The Rescuers Down Under." That sounds funny to me. I also wondered why this very short was not listed in an official theatrically Disney animation filmography.

Like Mickey's Christmas Carol, The Prince and the Pauper is a cartoon you'll enjoy again and again. It's recommended.
