I like this short. I also noticed that the explosion sound was similar to the ending in
Up A Tree
.

One of the good Chip and Dale shorts is 'Dragon Around,' where Donald's steam shovel terrorizes the chipmunk knights. Typically clever and entertaining.

This short from 1954 wrapped up volume 4 of Disney's Classic Cartoon Favorites collection with a bang... quite literally! Chip 'n' Dale's home is in the shape of a castle this time, and after Dale reads a fairy tales book, Chip believed there was a dragon after them, after Dale convinced him! (Donald's steam shovel, that is.) Dale's horse-neighing sounds sound like they've been sped up for little guys like him. Donald tried to take the tree down, but ended up losing the "dragon's" tooth, and replaced it with a gold one. Once the shovel's mouth was stuck in tar, all its teeth came out! Donald tried to headbutt the shovel on the tree, but it wouldn't give. Thank goodness, Chip 'n' Dale found wrenches and unscrewed the shovel's parts, making it speed away to nothing! (Except Donald getting conked on the head on the tree, like in the short
Working For Peanuts
the previous year.) Did you notice the explosions Donald was going through had the same noises as the 1955 short
Up A Tree
? A blowtorch makes a good fire-breathing effect for a steam shovel that looks like a dragon. It nearly burned Chip 'n' Dale to pieces! I hope you enjoy this knight-and-dragon tale set in the mid-1950's! (Just look at the sign the shovel puts up. It says: "Another freeway for your safety.")

When I was little, I first saw this Chip and Dale vs. Donald Duck featurette on volume 9 of the second series of Walt Disney Cartoon Classics starring the eponymous chipmunk duo. The ninth volume was one of the few I had/owned and I rented most of the others. Anyway, this is another great one. I can't decide which of the shorts on the video is my most favorite nor any of these particular shorts in general. I concur that the majority of them are great. I really like the sound effects coming from that dragon-like vehicle in which Donald rides. The best part is near the end, when Chip and Dale really give Donald his comeuppance (and he'd really come up, sky high), when they replace the rungs of the ladder with dynamite sticks and light the fuses, and the duck is sent into the horizon as the dynamites go off almost like fireworks. I love it.
