This is the last cartoon in which Mickey Mouse is voiced by Walt Disney. It is also one of the last cartoons in which his personality is not so bland. However, it is Donald, Goofy, and Willie the giant who get the most laughs. Donald's short temper makes him hilarious, especially during the part where he is so hungry, he begins to eat the dishes. Goofy's stupidity and his ability to keep a positive attitude toward almost anything make him a good character. Willie the giant, like Goofy, is rather dumb, but he is also the villainous character of the story, whereas Goofy is one of the heroes. The harp is the victim who needs to be rescued in order to get the village to prosper again. This short is somewhat of a remake of the 1933 short Giantland in my opinion. Like Giantland, it is based on the fairy tale "Jack and the Beanstalk." This has been one of my favorite Disney shorts when I was younger and still is today.

I actually had a view finder, and a movie finder as a kid with Mickey and the Beanstalk. The movie finder was great, and would turn it slow, then fast and backwards to watch everything in reverse. Kinda wishing I still had it? Great childhood memories. Love the part with the roof and the giant using it for tobacco, and rolling Mickey up in it. That's how I remember it anyway.

I enjoyed this short a lot. A short excerpt of this cartoon was used in "Honey I Blew Up the Kids." I also enjoyed the music and the songs.

Mickey and the Beanstalk is an outstanding cartoon. Narrated with great humor by Ludwig von Drake with his adorable and entertaining insect friend Herman, the story includes such memorable elements as: the golden harp who sings a beautiful song, the doofus of a Giant, and the wonderful opening sequence of Happy Valley with its babbling brook. All the residents sing a great song in this beginning, before Happy Valley dries up and leaves the three heroes miserably impoverished and fighting over food.

This is one of my favorite old cartoons! I'm only 17 but my mom had it taped, among others, so I would watch it daily as a kid. I remember my favorite parts included the harp singing in the very beginning, Donald's trying to eat the cows tail, Goofy on the Jell-O, and Mickey on the cork. It's too bad that that the childhood of future generations will lack this essential short. But, when I have kids, they will most definitely know all about Mickey and the Beanstalk among others like Mickey's Trailer, another favorite of mine.

This has been one of my all-time favorite cartoons since my first viewing in 1993, and it still is in my top 25 favorite movies nearly 15 years later! Contains so many classic moments, I can't begin to tally them all. But I'll start, anyway-the three heroes sleeping as the beanstalk grows around them (a sequence that defies description!), the attack on the food on the giant's table, Donald's reaction to the fact that Mickey traded the cow for beans, it just goes on and on and on and on. Stone cold classic, rush out and see it.

When I was a little girl my mom had a record recording of Mickey and the Beanstalk I had seen the movie much later after I had heard the recording. I loved the music and the singing and the just the whole story. This was one of my favorite memories of me and my brother just sitting around my mothers stereo listening to the recording of this story. We would run around singing it till my mother would just about go nuts.

What a classic! I'm 26, and remember this great Disney short like it was yesterday. It's one of those fond memories of childhood for me, and it goes hand in hand with other wonderful Disney shorts like Lambert the Sheepish Lion, The Three Caballeros, Song of the South, the entire Silly Symphonies, and the hidden gem that was Mousterpiece Theatre (remember that?) Cartoons and life in general were much simpler than today. I have a 3 year old son and have started showing him these awesome cartoons, and while we watch I'm reminded on certain emotions that these films bring out. Some of them are very heavy! Walt was a wonderful visionary ... he was so ahead of his time, and any film that had one of his touches, vocal or artistic, was just top shelf. Disney Films around the 1930's and 1940's just can't be beat. Forget "digital restoration" re-releases. Most of the time the audio is over-compressed and you lose a lot of the originality of the first one.

So if you have children and you want to feel safe knowing that they're watching something that won't totally ruin them, the OLD classics like this and the previously mentioned titles will give your kids plenty of fun with imagination. It's easy to get lost in those films ... Get 'em all!

Was very disappointed to purchase the new Mickey and the Beanstalk DVD and find that the Mickey and the Beanstalk cartoon was narrated by Ludwig Von Duck. The poor 1960s era animation is at odds with the beautiful original Disney animation; and the intrusive narration of a much inferior character mars this DVD significantly. Would much rather have had the cartoon as it was originally produced, with Edgar Bergen, Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd.

Also talking about the cartoon Bongo, the film "Fun and Fancy Free" was, for me, a movie maybe a little different from the rest of Walt Disney. I have the DVD with the full movie and thought the best Mickey and the Beanstalk, as the Bongo seemed a little more free, in scenes like I saw in the cartoons of that year. The talk of Mickey and the Beanstalk, I would like to have the version with the Ludwig von Drake, why not appreciate puppets! In short, since the Second World War, the cartoons began to be different, not worse, and this film is one of them. Anyway, I really liked the music and the animated short!
