Welcome to Doozy

I just saw this for the first time, and this NEEDS to be a series. I believe the future of this kind of stuff is streaming. Very unique in it's own way.

My Little Pony: Equestria Girls

OK, I guess it's time to come out of the closet; I like this movie/series. I like this BETTER than Friendship is Magic. Yes, it was a corporate decision, and it received some backlash saying, "OMG, they sexualized the ponies, how dare they do this!!!" However, the truth is that this is to be set up as a different series. While retaining the same names, personalities, colors, and voices, these are NOT THE SAME CHARACTERS AS IN FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC! The only one the same is Twilight Sparkle, who came across to the human world to get her crown back. Eventually, a different version of Twilight Sparkle (who fans call, Sy-Twi) would appear in the series while Princess Twilight Sparkle stayed behind in Ponyville. The crew that worked on Friendship is Magic are also staffed on here. Yes they did have to appeal to girls, yes they had to appeal to Hasbro, but other than that, they were given the same creative freedom to do whatever they wanted. This became more apparent later on in the series. It's not a masterpiece, but it is a fun enjoyable little film, and if you like it, 3 more movies, 4 specials, plus tons of shorts follow.

My Old Kentucky Home

There were two versions of this cartoon. One has the ending with the lady on a train, while the other (which I don't condone but it's history) is the lady with a black person pulling the wagon using a watermelon. And it's also claimed to be the first sound cartoon pre-dating Disney a couple of years (though the Ko-Ko Song Cartoons were never widespread under Red Seal Productions).

Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales

Not as great as the classic A Charlie Brown Christmas, but a nice collection of moments from the comic strip such as Sally "falling down" a Christmas tree and the girl who changes her name everyday.

A Tale of Two Santas

If you thought nothing comes close to the first Xmas one, you're sadly mistaken. Like the first one, this is a very clever episode with Bender posing as Santa to try and restore the original Santa Claus that brings gifts but ends up being hated due to Robot Santa's reputation. "While there's nothing in the box, the message is clear: Play Santa again, and I'll KILL YOU next year!" Merry Xmas everybody!!!

Snow Time

I actually saw this one as a kid. My library teacher had old cartoon tapes he showed us. That said, I believe this was one a public domain tape of some sort even though it isn't in the public domain. Basically it's about how snow is made.

Mississippi Swing

A very offsetting cartoon for some because of the creepy stereotypes of African Americans. It's even more offsetting when you think about how they were treated in real life during the era where the cartoon takes place. Many of these specific cartoons tend to be unfunny and bland (the only exceptions are Coal Black and All This and Rabbit Stew as well as Mammy Two Shoes in Tom and Jerry). That said, it was commonplace at the time of this cartoon, and I don't think anyone meant any harm by it. It's also important to have a discussion about it rather than covering it up and erasing history (not necessarily airing it on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network, but just seeing it in a proper manner), because if we do hide it, we are doomed to repeat history again....just like now......

Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling

An excellent Rocko's Modern Life special. It's basically a reboot special about Rocko trying to bring back a cartoon he liked from the 90's as a reboot special. How Meta. The show is also very progressive as it didn't shy away about acceptance for the LGTB community. I highly recommend this special even if you're not a major fan of Rocko, which I am not.

Forgotten Friendship

This is the best Equestria Girls special. Sunset Shimmer has to find out who erased everyone's good memories of her before it's too late. It has a couple of great songs including "Invisible", and we learn more about who Trixie is plus we're introduced to a new character, Wallflower Blush. Sadly, it seems Wallflower only appears in this special and no other episodes save for a cameo. Edited for the Discovery Kids broadcast, it is uncut and split into 5 segments on Youtube.

Lonesome Lenny

Great cartoon. I remember it well from when I was a kid. I enjoyed when the dog tells us "Watch this trick now...watch this." That was pretty cool. "Gee I wish I had a little friend to play with. You know, I had a little friend, but he don't move no more." Sad ending, isn't it?

The Legend of Dratini

Censored from the North American release due to use of guns and Meowth dressed up as Hitler. The episode itself is innocent: Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu go to a Pokemon ranch and ends up finding a rare Dratini that Team Rocket wants to capture then gets thwarted. However, throw in some guns to the head by some crazed gun loving nut job, and it ends up on the top banned Pokemon episodes.

Sailor Moon R: The Movie

This is the absolute best Sailor Moon movie EVER!!!! If you are unfamiliar with Sailor Moon and wanna watch this first instead of starting from episode 1, DO IT!!!! It is AMAZING!!! You learn why Sailor Moon is such a special anime and a special character alongside her friends and teammates Sailors Mercury, Jupiter, Mars, and (my favorite) Venus, and later in the series Chibi Moon, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Ikuhara is an underrated anime director. Some say he is the lost Warner Bros. director because of his interesting directions of his anime, especially with relationships....a trick he used in Sailor Moon-Sailor Moon Super S (ESPECIALLY Super S) followed by Revolutionary Girl Utena, Penguindrum, Yuri Kuma Arashi, and Sarazamai (the later two view at your own discretion). Go see it. It may still be online for free officially, man Go! Stop reading this and watch it already, or in the name of the moon, I'll punish you!

Scout's Dishonor

While some fans may think these are terrible cartoons or that they are very cheap, it should be noted that even the original Walter Lantz shorts were done on a budget. Ten of these shorts were made for Youtube, and the reason they were made was due to the realization that Woody Woodpecker is beloved in foreign countries. More specifically Spain and Brazil. Two of these shorts featured Woody in Brazil for the first time. It's always big to see iconic classic characters come back in a good way. This short is one of my favorites. It may be very routine, but you have Knothead and Splinter who makes fun of Woody's fails. It is believed that they tried to base Woody's niece and nephew off of how they were in the animated cartoons.

Little Lost Pony

The debut episode of Gumby's pal Pokey. Also the debut of The Blockheads. Another fun episode from the early days of Gumby.

Unfair Science Fair Redux

Another fun episode of Phineas and Ferb. Includes the song, "Queen of Mars"

Preamble

We watched this one in 5th grade over and over again during our time learning about The Constitution. As eluded to in another comment, the result is knowing the Preamble by this catchy tune, which is what Schoolhouse Rock is best known for. The only mistake is that the beginning says "We the People in order to form a more perfect union". It should say "We the People of the United States in order to form a more perfect union."

Caviar

The very first cartoon from the new Paul Terry studio now called Terrytoons. Farmer Al Falfa (not featured here) would be carried over from Aesop Studio's Fables series (now renamed Van Beuren after the split between the two producers) and would appear in the newer Terrytoon series since he was Paul Terry's baby anyways. The series would eventually introduce new characters like Kiko the Kangaroo, Puddy the Pup, and Gandy Goose, and would also birth its two most popular series, Heckle and Jeckle, and its most beloved series....Super Mouse later renamed Mighty Mouse. Caviar did not appear in any CBS television package, so consider this a rare cartoon, especially since its current copyright holders have no interest in Terrytoons at this time.

Fandom Pains

One of my favorite episodes. Lucy is my favorite Loud, and it shows why. There is a plot hole when she talks about Leni and Lori must drink "fresh human blood" then Lori makes beat smoothies in its place. Well, it's not denying that it's real blood.

Funny Business

This episode is infamous for using a minor character named Maggie, who Lincoln tries to perform for her birthday party, but fails miserably until Luan helps him. This was her only appearance, but lives on in an unfortunate way. Because Luan and Lincoln was able to make her smile in the end, some fans began shipping Luan and Maggie (please for the love of God do not google it). At any rate, it's a great episode. Luan is starting to become one of my favorites.

A Coy Decoy

There was a time between 1969 through around 1989 when this was considered one of the worst Looney Tunes ever made. This was because the Porky Pig and Friends package at that time only offered the redrawn colorized version of this one, and out of all the Looney Tunes redrawn, this one has been considered the worst job that they did. Fortunately for Merrie Melodies starring Bugs Bunny and Friends and all TV packages it appeared on following it, a new computer colorized version was made, and the original uncut black and white version has since appeared on DVD, renewing the respect of it being a great cartoon it deserves.

Pre-Hysterical Hare

By far the worst Bugs Bunny cartoon ever made by the studio. It's pretty bad. Dave Barry as Elmer Fudd, the Capitol Records music cues, and a very meh plot combines a recipe for disaster.

While Strolling in the Park

Very cute segment of The Alvin Show (the best version of The Chipmunks in my opinion). It's interesting about how Simon talks about the "goofy machine" that makes the instruments play because boy does the word, "Nickelodeon", has an entirely different meaning today.

The Glob

The background music used on the opening title and then during some of the chase scenes would more famously later be used in Night of the Living Dead, more specifically when the first zombie chased Barbara. Thus, ultimately and eventually, made it a true horror background music for a Gumby Adventure.

Wolf! Wolf!

The most widely seen Mighty Mouse cartoon due to it falling into the public domain; the only Mighty Mouse cartoon to do so. That doesn't necessarily mean the greatest Mighty Mouse cartoon. Pretty good, but it's an early cartoon that doesn't represent the series and the mouse as a whole.

The Loud House

First of all, renamed "Bathroom Break" for The Loud House and The Casagrandes Youtube Channel. Second, I've been really digging The Loud House for the past several months. It offers a different variety of characters to choose from in the Loud Family of siblings one might relate to. While 10 of which are girls, each one has a unique personality. For example, Luna likes to rock and roll, Luan likes to tell jokes, Lisa is the smart one, and Lucy (my favorite) is the dark and mysterious one. There are a number of love letters to shows past with their unique designs similar to that of Jay Ward and Total Television designs of the 60's as well as Nickelodeon shows of the 90's as opposed to the standard designs used in cartoons today. A very fun show that I know kids can enjoy and their parents wouldn't mind watching with them. Now the short has some subtle differences compared to the series. One big example is the eldest, Lori, who seems to be the mean one according to the pilot. After a while, they toned her down a bit to be more loveable and nicer. Some other small changes include Luna being a part of the LGBT community, Lisa having a lispy voice (she doesn't speak here), and Leni having a love of fashion designing. Other than that, this is a great way to start off your journey through the Loud House. Enjoy!

How Double Dare You!

A love letter to Double Dare, which was one of Nickelodeon's most popular game shows and the first original Nick production to use the iconic slime (which you do need to sign a waiver for in case of allergies) as well as a love letter to the original host, Marc Summers; the main reason Lincoln wanted on the show.

Maria from Madrid

Unlike the rest of the musical segments of the show, this one is not based off a Chupmunk song, rather animated to a musical arrangement from one of Ross Bagdasarian's other record albums which he wrote himself.

Friended!

First appearance of Sid Chang, who would become a regular character on The Casagrandes

Dragonflies

Billed as a special episode when originally aired. Amy Poehler would host segments during a block celebrating this special with new episodes and reruns of previous Mighty B episodes. And let me state for the record I love this episode of The Mighty B. This and We Got the Bee are my favorites.

Save the Date

First official appearance of Ronnie Anne, who would later become the star of the spinoff series, The Casagrandes. She was previously mentioned by name and was originally going to be a ginger girl, but that changed when the writers decided to make her Bobby's little sister.

Scent of a Monster! Chanela Will Steal Your Love

Episode was originally banned in the United States due to possible violence against animals.

The Crybaby: Usagi's Beautiful Transformation

First episode of Sailor Moon, which has since become one of the most popular anime series of all time (and my personal favorite)

Punishment Awaits! The House of Fortune is the Monster Mansion

First episode of Sailor Moon to be banned at one point. This is due to some content not suitable for children

The First Bad Man

This cartoon MIGHT HAVE gotten me in trouble at school once. There is a scene where the outlaw runs out of bullets so he uses his finger to shoot at the cops. Not sure if it was my fingers or my pencil, but a classmate and I pretended to have a shoot out, we were both told to "flip a card". Should have realized, but I was 9, that this was fresh off of both Columbine and 9/11. Oh well, no grudge against this cartoon because it's Tex Avery, and pre Flintstones might I add.

Valentine's Day

Funny and enjoyable little episode of Spongebob. Usually only airs around Valentines Day.

Mid-Life Crustacean

Episode has been banned since 2018 due to inappropriate content. More specifically, the Panty Raid scene. Home video releases, however, continue to offer that episode as of this comment. (3/28/2021)

Channel Chasers

Probably my favorite out of all the episodes as it goes through parodies of many famous shows and cartoons including Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, Dragonball Z, Speed Racer, Simpsons, and so much more.

Usagi vs. Rei: Nightmare in Dream Land

Ikuhara establishes the arguing relationship between Usagi and Rei in this episode. Many refrences of Nara Dreamland could be found throughout the episode, which is a now defunct theme park that ALMOST was the first franchised Disneyland before the deal fell through. I love this episode a lot.

L is for Love

When I started very late in the Loud House game, I pretty much assumed that Sam was well established who she was as was Luna. However, after watching and listening closely the L is for Love, that's not necessarily the case. Scenes with Sam show her with a group of rocker kids including this one guy. Also, Sam was NEVER referred to as pronouns. No "Where is she?" or "She's out of my league dudes." Instead, "Where's Sam? and "Sam's out of my league dudes." It could be assumed that this rocker dude Sam was hanging out with was actually Sam as it's a boys and girls name, but it wasn't revealed until the very very end that not only Sam was a girl but Luna is Bi. Perhaps that writing was done on purpose to surprise everyone causing the media to go nuts, but at the end of the day, it shouldn't matter if Sam and Luna are gay or straight. They're awesome, and people love seeing them. And with the exception of Benny, Sam would become the more popular admire while the rest sort of just faded away.

Potty Mouth

So this was the first episode I fully saw of The Loud House a few years back, but wasn't a fan (yet). I won't spoil it for you, but the punchline at the end makes it all worthwhile.

The Door

Distributed by Warner Bros and was part of the Warner Bros. Cartoon theatrical package. However, this was an independent film not produced by the studio making Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies at that time and therefore never made it onto any TV package even to this day (though with Me TV.....who knows what rabbit they may pull out of the hat). This is more of a political cartoon in part produced by the infamous Bill Cosby and was anti-war at a time of Vietnam. Personally, I think we should make peace not war, but that's a different story. Too bad Mr. Cosby, well, you know.... It was not made easily available until 2011 as part of the Looney Tunes Platinum Collection.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

Not as classic as the Rankin/Bass special years later, but still a great adaptation of Rudolph. Chances are, you might have seen this at least once in your life as it is public domain being used wherever possible. This includes Disney Sing-a-Longs. There has been dueling restorations/scans as of late, but the best one ended up being from The Library of Congress which has an original nitrate print using Silent Night instead of the famed song as this cartoon came out before the song. Reissue prints from years later would, of course, use the song Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

Festival of Lights

Regardless of religious or non religious belief, this is probably my favorite Ghost and Molly McGee thus far. It's both fun and heartwarming. Lara Jill Miller does an excellent job as Libby reciting a poem telling the story of Chanukah

Pink Outs

WOW....I am impressed. This has got to be the best Pink Panther cartoon I've ever seen. I'm not a major fan of The Pink Panther, with a few exceptions I always say you've seen one Pink Panther you've pretty much seen them all, but damn....this one's good. No plot, just a bunch of cartoon antics. Just exactly how it should be for this kind of character. I also see why a make good was done on the Blu-rays because of the laugh track....it works better without one so you can laugh on what you think is funny.

Back in Black

Another one of the best Lucy centered episodes where Lucy ends up falling in love with Rocky. It's also one of the more funny ones too with Lucy acting "normal"

Hush My Mouse

The first few seconds of the cartoon would be used as the intro for TCM's Cartoon Alley

Happy Circus Days

The ringmaster would go on to become Barker Bill, the face of the first Terrytoons cartoon show in the 50's.

One of the Boys

Infamous for gender bending the characters. Fans also started making a big deal over Linka Loud, which....sigh....gets pretty weird.

Weighty Problem

Weighty Problems alongside The Worm Turns and Good Cat, Bad Cat apparently no longer exists in film form. As a result, episode 7 was not restored in HD and furture releases were what's called Garfield in Retrovision where the episode was shown in 16:9 but with the actual show inside a cartoon TV in 4:3. Your best options to watch this episode are on the Fox DVD from the mid 2000's, rips from said DVD, or the official Garfield and Friends Youtube channel

Change of Heart

Ok....I LOVE this one. I know fans don't like seeing Clyde having a crush on Lori, but I always like to root for the underdog when it comes to love (ex: Charlie Brown and the Little Red Haired Girl). I see myself in Clyde as a result of this. It also shows how kind Leni is helping Clyde out with his problem. Obviously the show has since changed; Clyde's moved on with Lori and Lori sadly doesn't appear much because she's in college, but I still find it pretty cool seeing Lori have some sort of feelings for Clyde....even if it isn't a romantic one.

Really Loud Music

Considered by many as the best episode of The Loud House, and I can totally see why. Many of the songs are fun and memorable including Play It Loud and Best Thing Ever

Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie -Rebellion-

An absolutely brilliant film from the Madoka franchise. You may hate it in the beginning if you know your Madoka, but eventually it has its purpose and you realize why everything's the way it is. Also, Homura DID do something wrong!

The Bugs Bunny / Road Runner Movie

Such a great movie with a great showcase of classic cartoons. That, Looney Looney Looney Bugs Bunny Movie, and Bugs Bunny Superstar are my 3 favorites

Pony Express Droopy

I remember this one well with the Wolf going "Say kids, don't try this at home."

Avast ye Eds

One of my favorite quotes comes from this episode. "Kick my feet, kick me feet!" "Faster Ed!!!!!" "Kick my feet faster, kick my feet faster....." Sometimes I alternate that with "Dig a hole faster" because it has the same tones made by Matt Hill as Ed. It's also my introduction to who Errol Flynn was. I'm 31 as of this writing and I still laugh and enjoy the Eds as if I was 10 years old.

The Surprise

A very iconic moment in The Flintstones. I can only imagine the reaction would have been like had The Flintstones been made in the era of social media, but I'm sure newspapers were all over this story.

Planet Pirates

While not much could be said about the episode itself since it's a typical Ruff n Reddy, this is the very first Hanna-Barbera cartoon and would begin a legacy for years to come

Greedy Gabby Gator

Infamous for that creepy shot of Gabby pointing with green realistic fingers. You thought it was an Internet meme, nope. Turns out to be true.

The Crunch Bird

Very entertaining short film. Don't let the kids watch however

The Juggler of Our Lady

I can't believe it's a Terrytoon. This has to be my favorite during the Gene Deitch era because it's so stylized with very little music (yet still Pillip Scheib). It's got Boris Karloff years before narrating The Grinch. In fact, there's one line where he goes "Christmastime had come" and you could swear he was in Grinch mode already. Such a great story too.

Stopping the Show

During the scenes for That's My Weakness Now edits are shown before and after the song. This was done years prior to UM&N and was done by the Fleischers themselves as these edited scenes clearly state that Betty was doing an imitation of Helen Kaine. Long story short, it was due to the Helen Kaine lawsuit, and they felt that had the scenes be left uncut, they would have lost the case against them. That goes for Betty Boop's Rise to Fame as well
