Added along with The Pink Panther Cartoon Collection Volume 5 to the first 20 shorts included on the release. The last 3 entries will be added at a later date due to A.) 1978 will be split up between Volumes 5 and 6 and B.) Because it's unknown whether the reissue versions of the 3 shorts included on Volume 5 or 3 entirely different ones will be on that release.

UPDATE 2/25: Kino has officially announced Volume 5 of The Pink Panther Cartoon Collection confirming the reissue versions of 3 shorts will be included making the contents for the 6th and final volume a no-brainer. ;)

This is somewhat off topic, but is the Cinemascope version of "Dixieland Droopy" available anywhere?

No, only the academy ratio. What's more I didn't know there was a cinemascope version made.

Are there any official sources on a Cinemascope version of "Dixieland Droopy" existing at all? I see it's mentioned on Wikipedia , but no sources are referenced. This was the only Avery-directed Droopy cartoon which actually got restored for the 2007 DVD set, and it's in Academy Ratio on there. Plus, Warner chose to restore the Cinemascope versions of all four Tom and Jerry cartoons which were produced in both Academy and Scope format (Pet Peeve, Touché, Pussy Cat!, Southbound Duckling, Pup on a Picnic). Considering that the restored "Dixieland Droopy" is in fullscreen, I would find it surprising if a widescreen version exists as well.

Just dash your hopes Avery never directed anything in Cinemascope.

I'm thinking the same, Kristjan. Assuming it IS misinformation, though, I'm wondering where the information about Dixieland Droopy existing in Cinemascope originated to begin with?

Speaking of the four Tom and Jerry cartoons which were produced in both Academy and Cinemascope ratio: I'm noticing that Thad's wonderfully thorough MGM Cartoon Filmography by Production Number  has a mention of "Released in Academy and Cinemascope ratio" behind Pup on a Picnic, Touché, Pussy Cat! and Pet Peeve, but NOT behind Southbound Duckling. I assume Thad simply forgot to add the note there, as I have copies of both versions of this cartoon in my file collection.

Perhaps you should notify him then. 🙂

I've added the just announced Blu-ray for Summer Stock which will include Tex Avery's The Cuckoo Clock (in restored and remastered HD glory!).

Oh, he'll come around reading this forum again sooner or later. 😉

RESTORED and REMASTERED?? Seriously? So not just a raw scan in HD like Little Rural Riding Hood on the Battleground Blu-ray? Do you have a source for this part about it being fully restored?

Following up on this... I found the specs from Warner Archive's announcement on the Home Theater forum :

Quote:

Special Features: Get Happy:The Making of Summer Stock (featurette); Vintage Pete Smith Specialty Short “Did’ja Know” (SD); Vintage Tex Avery cartoon “The Cuckoo Clock” (HD)Theatrical Trailer (HD)

So it specifices that "The Cuckoo Clock" will be in HD, but nothing beyond that. If nothing more has been announced elsewhere, I will assume this will be a down-and-dirty raw scan of the film in HD (like the print of Little Rural Riding Hood on the Battleground BD), and not a restored and cleaned up version.

That's what I figured when I saw the Warner Archive specs. But you know, "HD" does not necessarily mean "restored and remastered". The Cuckoo Clock hasn't been released in a restored version anywhere else, to my knowledge; and judging by how Little Rural Riding Hood was presented on the Battlegrounds Blu-ray, I think it's more logical to expect that this, too, will be a raw transfer. Still worth noting, though, just for the fact that another Avery MGM cartoon will be released in HD. 🙂

According to a Facebook post by Thad on The Bugs Bunny Video Guide , the print of Tex Avery's "The Cuckoo Clock" on the Warner Archive Blu-ray Summer Stock is not true HD after all.

Has anyone else seen the cartoon on this Blu-ray? I'm curious if it's the exact same TV print that's been circulating for years.

I was looking at the filmography just now, and was very surprised to see "Tom and Jerry Golden Collection Volume 2" in the listings for the Tom and Jerry cartoons. Then I read these five-year-old comments and got the explanation...

Technically, it's delayed. If (and I hope not!) the day comes it gets cancelled, I will remove it.

But, you know... I think we can VERY safely say that GC Volume 2 is cancelled for good by this point. If it ever ends up happening, it will be because Warner decides to revive it, not because it has just been "delayed" all this time. 😉 I'd suggest removing this set from the list.

I agree. That set was supposed to have been released six years ago. I don't think it's gonna happen.

It obviously won't the way things are now. And even if it does get released sometimes in the future, it would be better to just re-add it to the list then. The way it is now, it's just confusing to people not familiar with the story behind this set.

Turns out that "Good Will To Men" was actually restored earlier than for the 2008 Academy Awards DVD. I just found out that the restored Cinemascope version is also included on the 2006 DVD edition of "It's Always Fair Weather ". And even better -- it's presented in proper anamorphic widescreen, rather than the letterboxed version on the later Academy Awards set. 🙂 Here are a few screenshots:

In conclusion: it seems like Warner restored ALL the MGM Cinemascope cartoons in one go back in the mid-2000s when they released the Tom and Jerry entries on the Spotlight Collection DVDs.
