...Continuing on from our old thread in the previous forum, I thought I'd start a new thread to discus any of the new Mickey cartoons which have been appearing on the Disney Channel and on the web. Previously the latest cartoon we mentioned was Clogged starring Minnie Mouse in Amsterdam. There now appear to be a couple of new shorts (I haven't yet seen them myself yet thanks to a flaky internet connection today).

First up is Goofy's First Love which is already up online for viewers in the US.

Also there appears to be another one called Doggone Biscuits there was a picture of it on the UK Disney site along with a link, but when I tried to re-load the page it had disappeared along with 'Tulip Trouble' which must be an alternate title for Clogged. The picture showed Mickey, Minnie and Pluto and the description (which I only barely got to read before the page crashed) said that it's about Minnie looking after Pluto.

Both Goofy's First Love and Doggone Biscuits can be found on YouTube and I've seen both now. However, I'm not a fan of either cartoon. This series has always been its own thing, but a lot of the earlier entries in the series still retained a lot of the spirit of the early Mickey cartoons and, more importantly, the spirit of the characters. As the series goes on, it falls more and more into it's own groove with fewer and fewer cartoons retaining the original spirit of the characters. I'm not saying these cartoons are bad, but certainly fewer of them are to my tastes now. A lot of the time the characters are now just screaming, shouting graphics acting on random motivations to become grotesquely distorted or involved in some far-fetched violent action. This kind of random humour is probably really popular and hilarious to a lot of other people, but for me this series is becoming a disappointment after I was a big fan.

Personally, I'm still waiting on a more practical animated series based on the Mickey comics with Gerstain as consultant.

The supervising sound editor of these new shorts is Robert Poole II (who I never heard of), and he uses the Jim McDonald Disney sounds, the WB/Looney Tunes sounds, and Hanna-Barbera sounds in the shorts.

A new entry in the series, Workin' Stiff, is available online if you do a quick search for it. Should be on Disney's official channel before long.

For anyone trying to keep up with these, here's the latest one, Al Rojo Vivo:

Another new one, Bottle Shocked, this one boasts some fantastic colour design and a slightly longer than usual running time.

Plus, here's a couple of videos about the music in Mumbai Madness (which I think is one of the best episodes)

I wish I could follow them, but Disney's erratic scheduling of these causes me to miss them 90% of the time (and I'm one of those people who prefers watching TV shows on TV :P)

That's nice that Disney are celebrating Donald's birthday this year. Note how that promo says "celebrate the sidekick" though – how times have changed!

Oh, for the days in which Donald was considered a character of his own...it would be more fitting if Tuesday's marathon consisted mostly of classic Donald shorts (maybe it could begin with his debut in "The Wise Little Hen"!), concluding with this new short.

I'd suggest GAC do some sort of "Donald Week", but, of course, they're too busy on doing "June Bugs" for the whole month.

Now I sit patiently for an announcement that one of the shorts for S3 stars Roger Rabbit and Bonkers D. Bobcat. 😉

I'm waiting for when they will bring back Mickey's second rival Mortimer Mouse. He hasn't bin messing with Mickey since House of Mouse and Mickey Mouse Works.

Think we'll be waiting a while to see either Roger Rabbit or Bonkers! To be honest while these characters could work with Mickey when they're all living in a Toon Town kind of world, I don't think either really fit in to Mickey's regular universe. As for Mortimer, he was one of the highlights of the Mouseworks cartoons, not sure if the team creating the current series will realise his potential?

I wonder what the special Snow White inspired episode will be like. Wonder if it'll be Mickey characters cast in a Snow White style story, or if Mickey won't appear and the actual Snow White characters will be adapted to the style of the new shorts?
