Hello, I'd like to find out more about American animator Shamus Culhane's attempt to set up a British animation studio with the help of producer Alexander Korda, the head of London Films, who wanted to create a subsidiary dedicated exclusively to the production of cartoons.

According to the biography of cartoonist Henry Mayo Bateman, Culhane tells this story in his autobiography Talking Animals and Other People; unfortunately, the price of this book is far too high for me to buy it.

So I've come to ask if anyone could do a quote from the book where this passage is mentioned.

Here's the article in which I discovered this story: http://s200354603.websitehome.co.uk/personnel/HMBateman.htm

Thank you in advance for your help.

I can also settle for a screenshot of the book's pages.

But given the lack of response, I'm beginning to doubt that Shamus Culhane's trip to England actually took place.

I just checked www.abebooks.com, www.alibris.com and www.biblio.com. You can get a used copy of Talking Animals and Other People for less than $30 (not counting shipping and tax) if you don't mind the book not being brand new. The most expensive copy of Talking Animals and Other People on www.abebooks.com is $125, and that's because it's signed and inscribed by Shamus Culhane, including a drawing of Pluto and a crab. (A recreation of a scene from "Hawaiian Holiday"?)

Unfortunately, the country in which I currently live is under economic sanctions from the United States, so it's impossible for me to acquire this book without spending exorbitant sums.

I am therefore obliged to ask for this information from someone who lives in the United States.

Do you have any knowledge of the animation studio where Shamus Culhane was working at the time?

Sorry for the lack of response, Bill. Some people don't check the forums frequently, while others have other priorities in life that tend to take precedence over participating. And this may not be a book that the average cartoon fan here possesses.

I have a copy of Culhane's book and he writes about this on pages 88–91 and 94. I will PM you when I get a chance.
