On April 6th, at 10:00 am, UCLA will be premiering several preservations/film restorations of several animated cartoons, many of which in partnership with ASIFA Hollywood, at the Billy Wilder Theater. The screening will be free, and here is the rundown of the films being presented
FRENCH FRIED (1930), the very first Terrytoon with Farmer Alfalfa, and long out of the public eye as it was never released to TV. Restored from a 35mm Dupe Negative
MUSICAL MEMORIES (1935), one of Fleischer Color Classics, notable for featuring the most 3D models of any of their cartoons. Restored from both the camera and track negatives
JAPANESE LANTERNS (1935), another two color film, this time by Ted Eshbaugh on the East Coast. Restored from the sole existing 35mm Nitrate
HOLD IT! (1938), a Dave Tendlar Color Classic where he explores chase ideas he'd return too in 15 years with Herman and Katnip. Restored from the SEN and a varsity density track negative
RED RIDING HOOD (1946), from a series of Coke Cola commercials for Latin America. Restored from a 35mm Fullcolor Nitrate, likely the only original print in existence
SUPERMAN TRAILER (1941), for the Fleischer series, produced for the special novelty series. Restored from its SEN and a optical track negative
A KICK IN TIME (1940), the first of the last batch of Color Classics with Hunky and Spunky as the stars. Restored from a 35mm Nitrate and a 16mm print
If anyone goes I would love to see photos of these, especially FRENCH FRIED!
