I'm sad to report that Spike Jones drummer and animation sound effect artist/editor, Joe Siracusa, has passed away on November 13 at age 99. His career included work at UPA, Jay Ward, Format Films, and most importantly, DePatie-Freleng Enterprise (and later when it became Marvel Animation) which he talked about his time there a few years ago on bonus material from the recent DVD/Blu-Rays of the studio's shorts.

As a tribute, here's one of the last theatrical UPA shorts that he worked on, "Bwana Magoo" (1959). What's interesting was this short's soundtrack consist of jungle sound effects and hardly no musical instruments:
