Got my copy from Walmart delivered today. I won't be able to watch it until this weekend, but nonetheless, I am excited to see these new transfers.

So you're saying that Thad and others who criticized the set for its considerable probems went "too far bashing it". Right...

And in response to this:

What I don't get is why you constantly have to rub your bitterness towards anyone and everyone criticizing the set deeply into peoples' web browsers. You have been doing this for 2+ years now, and know what? I think everybody here is VERY familiar with the grudges you keep holding against everyone who, in your eyes, picked the "wrong side" with regard to Porky Pig 101.

I said drop it! If I put anymore of my foot in my mouth, I'd choke.

Got my copy yesterday. Haven't watched very much yet, but so far, my favorites have been "Who Killed Who?" and "The Hick Chick".

Why do you like HICK CHICK? Just asking. The story? The gags? Pacing? Animation? I could never get into this one.

I'm also one of those weirdos that likes The Hick Chick - what can I say, I love my yokels (and the offended bull, too). It'll never be one of my favorites, but I'd still put it ahead of the likes of Batty Baseball and Big Heel-Watha. (It was also popular enough that Art Davis and Don Patterson both ripped it off, too.)

Somewhat off topic question, but what were the sources used for the Popeye and the Fleischer Superman DVDs? Both weren't from the OCN's, right?

Received my set here in Norway today -- that's three days after the official release date. I'm seriously impressed with WOW HD. :)

Have watched Red Hot Riding Hood, The Chump Champ and Dumb-Hounded so far, and they all look great. (Interestingly, I noticed that Dumb-Hounded switches to a somewhat lower-quality source during the final shot with Droopy, but that's a minor quibble.) I think I'm going to watch the rest in smaller doses... just two or three of these in a row can feel a little exhausting. 😉

It made me laugh quite a bit, not much more to it than that.

Arrived here in the UK today, too, also from WOW HD. Can't wait to get stuck into the set!

Watched everything yesterday. To be honest, for my personal taste and ears, Symphony in Slang is the worst sounding cartoon, besides Daredevil Droopy. "Symphony" is just too bright, remembering me of poorly remastered Compact Disc releases in the beginning. But none of the minor sound issues render the set or the cartoons unwatchable! And the only point I really got dikstracted by them was in the beginning of "Symphony".

But it's an otherwise flawless set!

Bad Luck Blackie, one of my Tex favorites (one I rewatched the most in the French DVD), is simply gorgeous. It's even strange to watch that gem in such amazing quality!! I got used to the muffled sound and dirty picture of the French set.

Vol. 2 is a safe investment for WAC and for all us animation fans. I can hardly wait.

I always come to TTTP in Exile in the hope of finding news about Warner announcing Tex Avery Collection.

Just checked the WBShop Best Sellers.

The Avery Blu-ray is currently #19 on the list.

This collection is practically selling like hotcakes! I’m so excited.

Now that so many of you have been thru the new disc...it's a great time to check out the original version of Preston Blair's book, Advanced Animation over at:

https://animationresourc...airs-advanced-animation/

Scroll down thru the individual page scans, it's cool to see how many of the animation drawings in Blair's book are from Avery cartoons that made it onto the Volume 1 disc.

The scans were taken from Jerry Beck's copy, which used to belong to Dave Tendlar.

I finally finished my review/web article on the Tex Avery Blu-ray. I have to admit, I knew of Tex Avery's cartoons, but not all of his work. So, my web article is more of finding out about his sight gags, puns, and just freewheeling comedy in his films.Really great, clever cartoons and I'm pleased with the quality again from Warner Archive with the 4K transfers and more.

My take on Tex Avery Screwball Classics Volume 1 Blu-ray:

Question about the PLAY ALL feature on this blu ray.. I wanted to rewatch the cartoons in the way that WB sequenced them on the blu ray. But when I did play all, it stopped after SYMPHONY IN SLANG. Then I had to hit play all again on the next menu page to watch the rest. I watched the cartoons out of order a few times and no issues. Blu ray plays fine and looks great. So, I am doing something wrong on the PLAY ALL feature? Is the blu ray defective? Or is that how WB set it up?

raginggoodfella,

I just checked the PLAY ALL feature with the disc, and the cartoons did play after Symphony in Slang. It does go to a screen that says Screwy Squirrel and then those cartoons play. I have to admit,I just played the first few seconds of each cartoon and then used chapter skip. But, Screwball Squirrel, The Screwy Truant, Big Heel-Watha, etc. played after that.
