Okay, so I see that the WBshop is now showing a preorder for a re-release of 2011's two-disc set, "The Essential Daffy Duck", and they're calling it the "Anniversary Collection".

But, if you look over at Amazon, the original set is still in stock and shipping, with no kooky upcharges or anything like that.

There appear to be NO differences between the content, other than the words Anniversary Collection added to the cover.

So here's my question...Why are they "re-releasing" this if it's exactly the same as the original set that appears to still be in stock and readily available?

Has this sort of thing happened before? I always assumed that repackaged re-releases were put out because the originals were no longer available.

The "Anniversary Edition" slipcovers are for the "Looney Tunes" franchise's 90th anniversary next year. Among the other titles being given this treatment are The Essential Bugs Bunny, 4 Kid Favorites: Looney Tunes Movies (and all four individual movies included in it), and Best of Warner Bros.: 50 Looney Tunes.

On a slightly unrelated note, the first four volumes of the Golden Collection are being re-released at around the same time in the same plain keepcases they came in when sold together (from 2011 on). One must wonder if retailers like Amazon are already selling them like that, because when I received the sixth volume for my birthday eight months ago, it came in a keepcase instead of a slipbox and Digipak...

I seemed to recall that they did that for certain Hanna-Barbara Spotlight titles a while ago.
