A reminder: Please pre-order the DVD/Blu-Ray on Warner Archive instead of Amazon in order to avoid any delivery delays as the case was for the last volume.

I ordered the previous two Popeye DVDs directly at the Warner Archive website. They arrived right on schedule. I will be doing the same for volume three.

I would’ve ordered from Amazon, but after the stock issue that happened with Vol. 2, I opted to order from Best Buy instead. I will still use Amazon, but not for pre-orders.

So far, Best Buy has the best price I’ve seen for Vol. 3, and when I placed my order, they gave me free shipping. Now, it is supposed to ship out and be delivered by the 17th, but I will be happy as long as it arrives in a timely manner. After all, I waited 2 weeks past the release date of Vol. 2 to cancel my Vol. 2 order from Amazon and order from Best Buy.

I’m assuming that as soon as Amazon said that this asset was unavailable, any copies ordered after that would be stuck in shipping hell.

I ordered my copy from Amazon a few hours after the pre-order link came out. Anyone think it’s possible that I bought a copy that will arrive sometime around the release date?

I bought mine from Amazon a few hours after the pre order ink came out there. Do you think I’ll be getting this sometime around the release date?

The pre-order link is back up on Amazon, and they’ve lowered the price of the blu-ray to $17.99, just as expected since the first 2 vols. got reduced to that price. If you already placed an order, it is still valid, so no need to order again.

Those look great as usual. But again, the colors of the Aladdin footage look quite different from the ones of Warner's restoration of the full two-reeler from 11 years ago.

Was the previous restoration a case where the colors were artificially pumped up? Is it even possible to know for sure?

... Because the two-reeler itself was restored from the neg and what's seen in "Popeye's Premiere" was taken from a source several generations away?

Clip for Olive Oyl for President

Weirdly, they changed the closing cue. Did someone at WAC think the closing cue was an a.a.p. alteration and "fix" it?

It's an easy fix at the DIY level, since as it turns out All's Fair At The Fair uses the same closing cue. But it's weird that the one cartoon that should have the a.a.p. closing cue doesn't anymore.

Do you know this or is it your theory? Because I think there's a noticeable color difference between the newly animated footage and the Aladdin footage in "Popeye's Premiere". The Aladdin colors don't look as vibrant. It almost gives me the feeling it's from a different source than the Popeye's Premiere neg.

The colors also look very different from the DVD edition of "Aladdin and his Wonderful Lamp", as Leviathan mentions. Here is a screenshot from the DVD versus the same motive from the YouTube clip of "Popeye's Premiere".

When they made cheater pictures, they of course didn't and couldn't go back to the original neg just to slice out bits and pieces. Not feasible, and if they did, the negs for those original cartoons would be in shreds. I think the two-reelers in general look a little juiced up on the original DVDs, but they're not vandalized and at least they're not faded.

B&N sent me a shipping confirmation today, so I recommend them as a reliable alternative to the pricey official WBShop or to avoid whatever Mexican standoff Amazon is having with WAC.
