It's that time of year again for CAPA's Summer Movie Series at the Ohio Theatre which means it's time for more Cartoon Capers screenings. This year marks the 50th year for the Summer movie series (actually the 15th year for the Cartoon Capers events) and what's even special is they are also going to do a two day screening of "Snow White and Seven Dwarves" early next month (this would be the first Disney animated film they ever shown for the series). Unfortunately, like the current Cartoon Capers shows, "Snow White" will be shown digitally (one of the few events for the series this year not to be shown from physical film). However, these are still worth seeing regardless and this Saturday Morning was the first of the two "Cartoon Capers" shows.

The theater was, as usual, largely packed with both kids and adults and had great reception complete with organist that played during the pre-show and intermissions. A rather unfortunate thing was that some cartoons were louder than others as some sound only came from the left speakers but that was just a minor problem as the selection was quite pleasing (all of it was from Warners). Anyway, here's the list of shorts for the first screening:

A quick update on the Snow White screening: I saw the Sunday 2 P.M. show which was packed as expected. As mentioned in the newspaper, this was a digital screening and not a film screening. While I'm not a restoration expect, I'm pretty sure it was the recent Blu-ray version as the modern castle logo was at the end after the original closing title. Despite that, it was a nice screening anyway.

Well, earlier today (which started out as a good day) the Ohio Theater had there 2nd Cartoon Capers screening for the season. What was special for this screening, they start the show off with a cartoon not from Warners, but Disney with their recent restored version of "Trolley Troubles" with music and all (although, the flyer incorrectly list Bugs and Sam as the stars of this short). Thus, this might mark the first time a silent era cartoon appeared in this screening (to recap, I missed the June 2016 screening when I was in California and never got the details on what was shown). In addition, instead of a Paramount Superman cartoon (as they went through all the safe shorts), we got a 2nd Popeye cartoon instead. Anyway, here's the list:

You say "all of it was from Warners", but there are actually quite a few cartoons here from the Fleischer, Famous and MGM studios as well. 😉

Ah, then I get it. Yeah, I know Warner owns those cartoon libraries, but I was thinking more in terms of which studio produced them (since this was a history-themed screening).
