Sadly, we have confirmation that the cut done to Popeye and the Pirates was done to the negative and is at large.

I've just created a new page about the lost scene of Popeye and the Pirates at Lost Media Wiki!

https://lostmediawiki.com/Popeye..._scene_of_cartoon,_1947)

Unfortunately, they deleted page about Popeye and the Pirates lost scene in lost media wiki.

If they had been able to restore this "lost" footage, he certainly would have put a spotlight on it.

I wonder if we'll one day see the Code people's edict to Famous, like the one Thad unearthed for Hare Ribbin'. That would at least tell us what the scene was about and why it was rejected.

I assume that edict is how historians like Jerry and Thad even know what the scene was about?

Amazon understimated possible sales and still does not have available copies.
It happened before with the first set.
I'm glad because it means that the set is going well but this way how much I'll lave to wait? I live outside the States and last time I've checked Warner Archive does not sell to Italy.

I recommend WowHD, will probably end up cheaper too.

Popeye and the Pirates's missing footage is lamentable, however i've always had this sinking feeling that the footage was gone from the negs, turns out I was right.

Anyways, someone at the Blu-Ray forums shared some screnshots of said short. They look stellar.

Should've known that the scene would be lost like the original ending to "The Heckling Hare" (1941).

I wonder if duplicate materials that were sent to the Library of Congress might have the missing footage? Probably not, I think.

If it was cut before release, likely not.

Dave Tendlar (the director) lived until 1993. In all the time he was alive, no one thought to ask him about the cartoon?

My DVD copy just arrived in the US Mail today. :)

Looks like I'll be watching some cartoons tonight!

EDIT:

Couldn't wait. Did a quick watch of Rodeo Romeo and Fistic Mystic. Looks like they do indeed have their original soundtracks! 🙂

...these have had problems with their soundtracks before, in other words?

What is your deal, Mesterius? You seem ready to jump down everybody's throat at all times.

They're not the original tracks to my knowledge, but reconstructions concocted from other cartoons, along with Royal Four-Flusher. Still don't have my copy.

I got the set just today and as I watched it, I kind of noticed that the end music on a couple of the shorts on the disc felt off to me. One that I felt was very weird was the end music for Rodeo Romeo which didn't fit at all with the short. I'm guessing that they weren't able to find a 35mm element that had ending music for a couple of the shorts on the set so they had to reconstruct them. Although I'm pretty certain that they may exist in other film elements somewhere. Otherwise, the shorts themselves look similar to the ones that are on Volume 1 (aside from some slight softness in a few shorts).

Watching the blu. Huge smile, the colors are gorgeous, can’t believe what these were really supposed to look like all these years.

The tropical technicolor entries like Island Fling and Safari So Good are particularly eye popping!!

And of course it’s awesome to see everything uncut.

Safari So Good is very colorful. It's simply amazing how eye-popping they are!

Here are some Peep in the Deep shots.
