I've been a lurker on this board for some time - even before it went "in exile". Today marks the release of my book Animated Personalities: Cartoon Characters and Stardom in American Theatrical Shorts, and I hope it will be of interest to many of the members of this group.

The book argues that cartoon characters should be regarded as legitimate movie stars - not just because they appeared in films, but also because the media often constructed "private lives" for these figures, including fan magazine interviews, product endorsements, and so on. I consider studio-era protagonists such as Felix the Cat, Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, and many others.

Apologies for the bump, but for anyone who might be interested in the United States, I've just noticed that my book, Animated Personalities, has been reduced to 99 cents in its ebook version on several online stores. I'm not sure why it has is so cheap and not sure how long it will last - it's rare for an academic-focused book to get such a discount, but am glad to see it at an accessible price for however long it lasts!
