I'm still very much tempted to buy this set, but it's disappointing to hear about these shortcomings. Just curious, who gave you the confirmation regarding the low-pitched audio on Dial P For Pink? Someone who worked on the set?

I think the error on Reel Pink is definitely someone's fault, because this set was supposed to FIX the mistakes of the earlier MGM DVD editions. Somone should have done their homework better on that short.

In any case, thanks for the updated information, Toonatic.

Missed out on the original MGM DVD releases and need to get this (and future volumes) at some point.

Just curious though, is anyone who has both the original DVDs and the new Blu-ray able to provide some proper screenshot comparisons?

By the way, a friend who is a film historian tells me that he once saw a Pink Panther cartoon in a theatre with a laugh track. Oops!

How many volumes are there going to be in total? 6? 8?

6 separate volumes for just 124 cartoon shorts. Have to say, I still wish they would have gone for 2 discs per volume. 6 volumes for that amount of footage feels like a lot of shelf space these days.

I am glad the DFE shorts library is getting its day in the sun. I have the old puffy white Pink Panther box, the old MGM DVDs of the Ant/Aardvark and the Inspector Volume 1, and the new Kino releases for the rest.

So far I have resisted double dipping (aside from the first half of the Inspector in order to get the rest), though I applaud the efforts to provide better masters and so forth and I appreciate the insight into the challenges the team has faced in doing so.

But I definitely would upgrade if they would add the Pink Panther Show related stuff as extras. Maybe on the final volume? I am gonna guess they won't do it. But they should.

Volume 2 is now available and...there's already something wrong; the original version of Pink Outs has a laugh track. >:(

The Kino Lorber website mentions one of the bonus features is the TV version of Pink Outs. Is that the only version present in the collection?

No. Both the original theatrical version AND the TV version are in this set and the original theatrical version has a laugh track here (hence why I used the term "original version").

It's unfortunate to see that blunder on the collection. I'm wondering though, are there any positives to Volume 2? I was excited to hear Greg Ford say they were trying their best to get the original titles to shorts like Psychedelic Pink.

Well there are a lot of positives; all other shorts are laugh track free and Psychedelic Pink has its original bongo beat music in the beginning.

UPDATE: Another positive, Hope Freleng Shaw stated in a comment in a post regarding this error ". I heard they were correcting it". Let's just hope so.

Do you have a link to the comment? Is this on Facebook or something?

So, are they going to a disc replacement program or do new DVD copies?

Damn, the whole thread seems to have been deleted! 😮 It was there two days ago. From what I remember, Mark Arnold was not enthusiastic about a disc replacement program.
