Man, some of the cartoons play the same opening theme from Porky’s Tire Trouble. Never the prints I saw online had that issue, and I wonder why they are presented on here? Since I never expected the wrong opening themes on the ones that exist with the true opening themes.

Well, my set came two days early and I skimmed through it. While I'm disappointed with the music errors on some of the shorts, at least they are unedited (with the exception of Porky the Wrestler where the footage is likely lost) and I would rather have them on DVD with these minor errors than not have them on DVD at all. I did a petition for this DVD, so WB will do a disc replacement for the cartoons that have the music issues, and the splices on Porky & Gabby.

Sign it here .

I actually just ordered my set today.

I'm a bit disappointed with how the titles on some of the cartoons are incorrect. I was a bit suspicious of how they were using interpositives instead of original negatives. While it sucks, titles aren't gonna make me hate a DVD set. As long as cartoon looks decent and the majority of the cartoon is present, I'm a happy customer. Anyone remember when the Max Fleischer's Superman 1941-42 set came out with the wrong titles or when Ren and Stimpy: Seasons 1 & 2 and Rocko's Modern Life: The Complete Series were released with abrupt edits and censorship? People still celebrate these sets even with the edits and purchased them regardless of their flaws.

Let's be frank, Warner Archive doesn't have the best history with animated DVDs. Releasing The Phantom Tollbooth cropped to widescreen or putting unrestored Hanna-Barbera cartoons together, to name a few examples.

I don't regret my purchase because I'm getting black and white Porky Pig cartoons on a decent disc. I got what I wanted, so I'm happy

Honestly, I really don't see the really big deal about the wrong music for the freakin title cards and not the whole cartoon . It stinks, but I think that's a bit too nick-picky. Heck, my biggest fear was that someone was going to pull out either a colored or black and white print of those Bizzaro redrawn clones instead of the real McCoy. And it never happened!

I mean is the wrong title music for cartoons really worst than having the overseas redrawn imposters in this set? Something to think about.

I still bought the set so I'll be able to see it with my own eyes instead of looking at screenshots. Mine will deliver next Wednesday, I'll post all the information once I get it.

As far as I know WB in the mid/late 80s remastered most of the LT & MM library they owned at the time and those analog transfers still look better than some of the latest restorations, even though they obviously have dirt and scratches. By looking at some of these screenshots it seems like WB used some of these, but many of the shorts listed as 90s/early 00s seem to me new masters.

In any case, I saw both Porky's Garden and Naughty Neighbors from RaiDue's digital archives last July (which aired in 2004 in B&W) and if I remember correctly they did NOT play the incorrect theme.

EDIT: By looking at the screenshots here  it seems to me the only old masters they used (in the selected shorts) are Porky's Picnic, The Chewin Bruin and the other one which I forgot the title (but you can clearly see the rainbowing effect of composite video). All the other screenshots come from new transfers, which means they are 4K scans, even though in most cases they're really bad.

Yeah, and besides you can simply just add them from the existing copies that have the original opening and closing titles, as well as the original opening music cues when uploading the Porky Pig 101 copies. So at least we are not completely screwed when it comes to doing corrections ourselves.

Got my set today and watched a few shorts. That "Porky the Wrestler" end title card music change is truly bizarre. I've seen the version with the correct ending music so that was jarring, to say the least.

I would argue that wrong music is just as bad as redrawn cartoons. It's an apples and oranges comparison in some ways- one is dealing with audio and the other video, but both are not the way the shorts were originally presented. It's unfortunate to lose unique pieces of music- for example, I was hoping to hear the title card for "Fish Tales" for the first time, but no dice.

Are these music changes a deal breaker? Heck no. The set is still very much worth buying. And I didn't go in expecting a perfect set, given some of Jerry's comments on Stu's Show.

i received my set today, and im enjoying it so far. the music changes are rather strange, they sound like they were added later and not part of the films themselves, but i suppose it's not the biggest deal. porky's super service, a short thad thought "looked awful" actually looked perfectly fine. however get rich quick porky did look a little bright, and porky's badtime story looked the same for the first minute or so.

update: ive noticed in porky's hero agency, 3 shots seem to be taken from an inferior print. other than that, the short looks great.

If anyone is interested, I've been fixing the majority of the audio problems in this set. Pretty easy fix, I just can't find a few things like the original audio opening to FIsh Tales.
If anyone can deliver that to me, that would be totally awesome!

I'm interested in your fixes on these cartoon's music cues. If you do have any accounts on any video service sites (like YouTube, Vimeo, or Dailymotion).

Ditto! I only have access to what's on the web, so if you can find better material that'd be awesome!

Speaking of that, although this still uses the incorrect music cue, it does have the correct LT opening theme.

IIRC, the pressed discs have silver backs while the DVD-R ones have purple backs.
