Well so far, based on the screenshots, one of the video extras is The Breakdowns of 1939.

Do you (or anyone else on here) know by any chance what disc that is included on? I'd love to be able to add it to the filmography if possible. 🙂

Should be getting it by the 28th. Can't wait to see the remastered new-to-home video shorts in full motion! From the screenshots, they look pretty good.

I am happy to report that my set has arrived a day earlier than expected, and I got the pressed version to boot!!

However, there are a few minor issues with this set, which I'm posting on the Looney Tunes Wiki  (I'm "Krazy Rabbit").

I received my set today, a pleasant surprise since the tracking info, when I last checked it the other day, gave the projected delivery date as Monday. (Like others, I never received an "order shipped" email, but I looked up my order on wbshop.com and it was indeed shipped on the 19th, with a tracking number provided.) I'll be going through it to check things out myself.

It should be noted that whatever player software he is using is stretching the DVD video vertically to 720 x 540 instead of displaying it at proper SD resolution (480p), so the frame grabs are not representative of what the quality of the source elements in the vertical axis would be in true 540p resolution. The fifth frame in the first link in particular does look like it's probably from a less-than-great 16mm print, or some rather poor 35mm dupe.

It's also worth clicking the link to view the rest of the Blu-ray.com thread after clicking the first link. Some cartoons have the wrong opening and/or closing music, and some (as also indicated by a few frames in the second link above) are sourced from the old analog video masters instead of new digital transfers.

ouch, that's a real disappointment. while i dont really care for the quality of the new film transfers (they look passable to me) the incorrect music sounds a little nasty but the fact they used old analog video masters for one or two of the shorts makes me upset. i understand warner archive doesnt work on a super high budget, but i feel they couldve stepped up their game and paid more attention to detail here.

it honestly sounds more to me like thad is overreacting, though i cant say im an expert on this stuff. i dont even have the set yet so all i have is those screenshots and thad's anger-infused rant. i do agree however that warner might need to pay more attention to the stuff they're doing.

While I'm happy that the cartoons are on DVD at all, I'm disappointed about how they dropped the ball. I didn't expect a perfect release and I expected inferior transfers, but not mismatched opening and closing music, mismatched titles in at least one case, cut-off bullseye openings, and old analog video transfers. In fact, some YouTube and Dailymotion transfers of worse quality have the correct opening music and the bullseye.

I do find it kinda disgusting that transfers of Flip the Frog and Willie Whopper were done by Thunderbean, who isn't as big as WB, and they could still afford to do most of the cartoons in 4K or at least 2K--from the original negatives where possible and on Blu-Ray, no less. (I don't have the Willie set yet--someday.)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not not recommending this set. I just feel the buyer should beware.

Geez. Top with that dirty deleted comment he put on Jerry's Facebook page about this DVD, I really don't expect him doing any more articles on either "Cartoon Research or "Animation Scoop" anytime soon.

While I am little disappointed on some title music problems, I don't think they're everything. Besides, might I remind some folks that that this set is a lower budget than the Golden and Platinum sets?

Also, I'm a bit worried about the sales of this because of these medium/minor issues.

In other news, I got the set. I haven't watched it yet, though.

I haven't ordered it yet, due to the expense and the fact that I need to conserve money because I'm unemployed. But the set is now 25% off on the WB shop, so maybe there's still a chance I can get it (hopefully a pressed copy) before Christmas.

Im not sure what Thad problem's if Im being honest, reading through that review it sounds nothing but sour grapes to me. It comes evident as you go go through the review. Its riddled with fallacies such as very least 2 red herrings and straw man argument. He does start the reivew of by saying that Warners are not doing what was being promised, while if you listen to any thing Jerry Beck said on Stu Show and in the podcast the set sounds and looks exactly like what was promised. The music issues ditto, If those cues were like that on the source material used then they were obviously going to end on the DVD similar to when reissue titles end on DVDs/Blu-ray sets instead of the original titles when they don't want use inferior 16mm prints which may have the original titles. But if they were editing those music cues in form else where (i.e borrowing form other cartoons to recreating something that was lost) then you have to got to wonder what happened. But Regarding the podcast (the voices sounded weird), when listening to the podcast it does not sound like anything like Thad describe. Which is straw man, and red herring (since the podcast is not supposed to be reviewed). He basically end review with another red herring by bringing up Thunderbean Animation when the topic is Porky 101 my advice stick with reviewing the DVDs, don't bring up what Thunderbean is going to do in next year or so as thats totally unrelated.

Personally I found this very surprising, I had never expected Thad to make such an scathing attack on something Jerry Beck was involved in, as Jerry is very pleasant to communicate with and Jerry has always been honest about what we are going to get. Looking at the main cartoon-research page Thad hasn't wrote an article on there since 2015. I do wonder if fallout happened between the two somewhere between now and back then I cannot tell about Thad is activities on the Facebook group but he doesn't seems to be very active on there as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Jerry Beck removed him form Facebook group. I get the feeling that he wasn't allowed to be involved in the set if he knew about it prior to august announcement. So he's taking the soonest opportunity to hit back at those that were involved with such a scathing review. But If he did not, then still there no need for such a negative tone in the review.

Although it sucks that some of the cartoons on this DVD uses the incorrect opening themes, but you can just simply fix this issue when uploading those cartoons online. Since some people do that online today (like when one person added the original 1941-1945 LT theme back to both Notes to You, and Porky's Cafe prior to this release).

And I do remember seeing the hand-drawn colorize print of Fish Tales very frequently on Cartoon Network airings, which uses the correct LT opening theme.

Speaking of Fish Tales, Boomerang in Italy aired the digital colorized version which had the incorrect opening theme.

But anyway, I think Thad is a bit too harsh in his reviews but I can't blame him for what he said. For a 40 dollar set they could have put more effort.

thad was definitely harsh, but i do hope warner learns from some of the mistakes and issues this set supposedly has. they should be putting some more care into this stuff, especially when they treat their television cartoon releases with super dedication.
