What's this about there not being a Blu-ray edition? Here it is.

Also, that YouTube clip doesn't look so good... the image is pixillated. :S Hopefully it's not indicative of the actual disc quality.

the video is ONLY streamed in 480p. I wouldn't judge based off the YouTube video completely.

I know, but 480p is no reason for the image to look pixillated. That problem has nothing to do with whether it's 480 or 1080.

Still, of course, it might simply be a fault of the YouTube video, and not representative for the actual Blu-ray.

At least restore the show and make it available for MOD

"Whistle While You Work" is a public domain song?

So you're saying a Disney song is public domain? Yeah, I don't buy that.

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster. I had to come out of the shadows for this one.

To me, the most frustrating aspect of this situation is that there is zero communication on the part of Ross Bagdasarian, Jr. to the fans of The Alvin Show as to what reason he might have (and it might be a legitimate reason) to not make a complete series collection a reality. You would think he would want the show his father was so involved in to see the light of day. Music rights issues might be a hurdle, but companies like Shout! have done amazing things lately with music heavy shows like The Wonder Years and WKRP.

Maybe this is more of a branding issue. A new generation knows Alvin & the Chipmunks from the movies. Perhaps Bagdasarian want to concentrate on building up that new image. Maybe the thinking is that it might be confusing to this new audience to have the previous incarnations available. Heck, if the movies hadn't been so popular, we might already have the whole enchilada on dvd.

I just wish he would release a short statement about this matter. I first saw the 60's series when it was syndicated in the 80's and instantly fell in love with it. I need more Clyde Crashcup in my life!

Jerry Beck's theory on Stu's Show was that the remastering of the shows on this release look great, which means they were likely expensive, which means maybe they are testing the waters for a full release without spending a ruinous amount of money on a release that might not recoup the cost.

Bagdasarian allowed Chip & Dale to sing "The Chipmunk Song" for a Disney record, so surely there shouldn't be a problem with the use of "Whistle While You Work" in a single episode of "The Alvin Show".

I remember that. I also remember the 1969 album "The Chipmunks Go to the Movies" having a few Disney songs covered by the Chipmunks. In fact, the "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" track also later showed up on the 1999 Chipmunks CD "Still Squeaky After All These Years!"

I recall hearing the reason why we only got these three episodes on DVD was because the restoration process for each episode is very expensive and time-consuming. I can see that.
I already bought my copy, and the restoration job is indeed fantastic. Though I am confused by how each episode has cut the closing credits sequence! It goes straight from a bumper to the Bagdasarian logo.

Has anyone bought/checked out the Blu-ray yet? I'm really curious about whether the episodes are in true HD quality.

OK - this latest Alvin release has been out for a while now - since April - has anyone heard any more about what is next?
Is there going to be another set released with 3 more episodes? A complete series set?
I would buy a complete series set of the original show immediately upon release.

Have you noticed that Alvin & The Chipmunks has a new animated series?
It's titled Alvinnn!!! & The Chipmunks, and it was produced in CGI by Bagadasarian Productions, in association with OuiDo! Productions and the M6 channel (from France).
This series premiered recently here in Brazil by the Gloob channel (which belongs to Globo TV). In the other countries from Latin America, the series is broadcasted by Nickelodeon.

Yes, and worth of note, the theme song they used was a shortened version of the 1983 "We're the Chipmunks" song!

Cap'nQuisp...Welcome, and I might point out those live TV series and the 80s Chipmunks shows aren't the oldest cases of music issues, the 1960s Chipmunks series's own contemporaries (like Gumby----you can guess the origin of MY user handle) and the first 1957-60 Hanna-Barbera and many others)
with Warner (for the season one Huck) and Classic Media (Gumby) rereleasing those with the original background music, and these aren't even songs but the Capitol/Seely Score (John Seely was Capitol's then-head of library music, which was credited to him as a result in fall-winter 1958 on six Warner cartoons, and reused in the Bugs Bunny show commercials, and on almost everything in 50s-early 60s.)

Ironically, the background music (largely) by Ross Bagdasarian (from his Liberty Records easy listening albums) used on the show
may also have trouble, since it was reused (though by Ross and I beilieve some original music by him was done for the show as well,
i.e. the Clyde Crashcup theme). The (bland-all due respect) Dean Elliott et al Ruby-Spears (and following) music seems composed Carl
Stalling like (also near and dear to Wiley207, as well as my heart) for each and EVER episode since that 80s revival.....so that
UNDERSCORE issue's okay, ironically the songs for the nineteen eighties and 1990s Chipmunks is in trouble. Meanwhile, ironically again,
the songs themselves as mentioned are public domain (with possible exceptions) on the 1961 show.

The Disney stuff, CyberFox,etc.,sorry to say, I believe is NOT copyrighted....

By the way -- here is a list of the Alvin Shows as they appeared in syndication (1980s-1990s) based on notes I made over 20 years ago. I can't swear with 100% certainty that they match up exactly with the original network airings, but I was able to check a vintage CBS network version of show #6 and can verify both versions of that episode are 100% identical, except for one thing: the network version had "and Alvin" added to some of the names in the credits (also seen at the end of show #1 on The Very First Alvin Show DVD) but this wasn't on any of the syndicated episodes. Otherwise, the "cold opening" and all the bumpers matched up exactly. It's still possible some of the segments could have gotten mixed and matched from one show to another, but given that it ran for one season with 26 episodes in prime time, and the format of all the episodes was exactly the same, why mess around with the shows? (Well, on the other hand, why not?)

Some of the shows had a missing bumper or two as noted. Also, I did not find the "wrecking ball" cold opening segment which appears at the beginning of a couple shows released on DVD (which also has no background music, so I wonder if it was ever scored, or ever used originally)?

Also, I know this will come as a huge shock, but surprise, surprise, the show rundowns listed at Wrongopedia are, what else...WRONG.
