Welp. That killed any chance of uniting the post-1951 Noveltoons with Paramount. Prepare to see "A Comcast Company" in the next Dreamworks movie logos, guys!

Yeah

But I'm also worried that they might ruin Dreamworks Animation as well.

I read Jerry's article, and I say I gotta agree with it. This gives Universal a huge leg up in the field, with not only all of their existing Universal and Illumination properties, but also every single Dreamworks movie ever, all of the Harvey characters, Felix the Cat, Little Lulu, Mr. Magoo and Gerald McBoing Boing (there goes any chance of them reuniting with Sony/Columbia), The Lone Ranger, Lassie, and some of the Rankin-Bass characters. They now have a stable of characters on par with Disney or even Warner Bros. I really wish they would utilize more of them (I'm looking at Woody, Felix, and Lulu specifically). Then again, utilizing them could turn out to be really good or really terrible.

I can't believe it. They own characters from five different Golden Age studios: Lantz, Paramount, UPA, Rankin-Bass (well, if you consider R-B "Golden Age), and Messmer's Felix. And just seventy years before, they were all separate entities. [buzzy] [andy] [audryy] [felix] [huey] [magoo] [woody]

I'm kinda curious how they might "ruin" them. Then again, I'm not a business expert.

EDIT: Amid Amidi had some thoughts on this deal . Warning: they're not super-positive.

As long as we get a lot of great DVD releases with remastered transfers, I'm in!

You know I listed a whole bunch of connections on Facebook, which kind of makes sense.

Isn't there a book that Amid should be trying to get published instead of wasting time doing pessimistic and pointless articles?

Gee, I wonder what Phil Vischer thinks about this buyout since Universal now owns his tomato. And yes, I know Universal released "Jonah".

Also, does this mean plans for a new "Masters of the Universe" show that I've been expecting DreamWorks doing are less likely? Universal does have a movie deal with Mattel's big rival, Hasbro(there's been talk that both toy company were considering merging, but that was three months ago).

Yeah, I gotta agree with you, Nic. I know Cartoon Brew ruffles some feathers around here. Sorry.

Since Universal now owns Dreamworks, does this mean the Universal Studios theme parks (in Hollywood and Florida) will add the Dreamworks Animation and Classics characters to their parks as meet-able characters and in their own shows and rides?
