Shochiku is bringing two significant wartime animated films to Blu-ray in Japan, Mitsuyo Seo's Momotarō Umi No Shinpei (1945), the first feature-length Japanese animation, and Kenzo Masaoka's Kumo to Chūrippu (1943). Aside from the typically higher price point of Japanese releases, it unfortunately does not appear that English subtitles will be included (even though Shochiku have been pretty diligent at providing them on their recent domestic releases of films by Kenji Mizoguchi and Yasujiro Ozu).

The Momotaro feature will purportedly be a new 2k restoration (from a 4k scan) and will screen at Cannes in May as part of their Cannes Classics  line-up. Would be nice if an English-friendly release surfaces sometime in the future.

Funimation and Anime Limited have licensed theatrical and home video rights for the US and UK respectively. No firm release date set yet from either as far as I can tell but an English-friendly release is certainly coming!
