Today is the diamond jubilee (in the U.S.) of the official release of "A Wild Hare", considered the first "real" Bugs cartoon.

Here's to at least 25 more years! [bugs2]

Happiest, Happy Birthday to the greatest cartoon character that never-lived ;-). The wabbit that has always inspired this Turtle (and many others) to all sorts of things (largely laughter) but also creative things... Tex Avery's masterpiece, the one and only Bugs Bunny (aka "Bugsenheimer Bunny", "the cwuddy wabbit" etc. ad infinitum).

Like Gertie's 100th birthday last year, this really seems like it should be a much bigger thing. I mean this is Bugs Bunny we're talking about – one of the biggest, most influential, most iconic animated characters on the planet.

Oh well, at least we care!

Happy birthday you carrot eatin varmint![sam]

Since WB isn't doing anymore specials with Bugs since they are too busy making money off of the DTV Scooby Doo and Tom & Jerry films, let's go back to 1990 to see his 50th birthday specials  which I think is one of the best TV specials with that wascawwy wabbit.

I also enjoyed this article by Scott Thill on CartoonBrew:

http://www.cartoonbrew.c...ugs-bunny-75-116579.html

He makes an interesting point towards the end of the article, acknowledging that while Bugs' classic cartoons have stood the test of time and continue to influence animators, it was the movie Space Jam that "marked the last time that Bugs Bunny invaded popular consciousness and made a significant box-office impact" back in 1996.

I'm not a fan of the movie at all, but I remember going to see Space Jam for a friends' birthday. The movie did indeed make a big impact and for a while Bugs and co were a thing for kids and even teenagers. I remember there was merchandise everywhere. Nowadays Bugs Bunny is hardly unpopular, but he seems to have much less of a cultural presence.
