I've watched them all over the past 5 days. Every single episode from the 1950's and 1960's is on Kabillion's YouTube chanel now. Here are some thoughts.
For the most part, I thought they did a great job restoring the 1950's episodes. It is very clear that the only option they had was to combine the syndicated half versions and come up with a presentation that is close to what they originally were. I don't think the actual full versions of these episodes exist anymore, at least not in color. A while back, I did see online somewhere a full episode of "The Gumby Show" hosted by Pinky Lee, but it was in black and white. In that episode, the Gumby segment was "In the Dough", and there were a few minor differences between that version and the newly restored version. These re-creations are not 100% perfect, and people other than me will notice it as well. But, in the end, I thought they did a good job on these episoes. Some of these episoes were not easy to edit back into a full-length episode given the treatment they received when they were split in half. Two examples of episodes that prove to be difficult to edit back into a full-length short were "The Black Knight" and "The Mocking Monkey". When those two were split, they were half episodes where the bulk of the story was in one half, and the other half coudl've easily played out like a separate story.
As for the 1960's episodes, it was nice to finally see "This Little Piggy" and "Foxy Box" with their original soundtracks. These two episodes, along with "Tricky Train" were never released on VHS by Family Home Entertainment. "Tricky Train" has shown up on many dollar store public domain DVD's, but the only time I had ever seen "This Little Piggy" and "Foxy Box" was in the 1990's on Nickelodeon, which of course was the 1980's redubbed soundtracks. Both "The Witty Witch" and "The Missile-Bird" are old transfers. "The Missile-Bird" looks like it is a VHS transfer. "The Witty Witch" has the 1967 theme song attached to it, and the episode itself doesn't look bad, but I do know it isn't a restored transfer. A restored transfer for "The Witty Witch" was done back in 2005, and does look better than the version Kabillion has. "A Hair-Raising Adventure" is a restored transfer, but is missing the copyright notice at the beginning.
There were four episodes that originally had end credits. These were "Pilgrims on the Rocks", "Pokey's Price", "Son of Liberty" and "Gumby Crosses the Delaware". All episodes except "Gumby Crosses the Delaware" have the end credits cut.
The order that the episodes are presented in is based off of the episode listing on the Gumby website. the 1960's episodes are nowhere close to being in an accurate order. I don't think anyone documented the actual order these episodes were produced in. People other than me will notice some of the episodes are completely out of order.
Aside from "The Witty Witch" not being a restored transfer, all other episodes that were restored in 2005 are shown as their 2005 restored versions. There were a couple episodes restored in 2006, "Treasure for Henry" and "Grub Grabber Gumby", that are presented here as newer versions with the 2013 copyright notice.
I assume that in the near future, all the 1980's episodes will make their way onto Kabillion's channel. It is nice to be able to watch these all online for free. Maybe if they get enough views on YouTube, they will go forward with a full series DVD boxed set. We can only hope.
