On my Sanyo Blu Ray works great.

I'll probably be roasted for this...but....wonder if I'm the only one that found this set....unspectacular to say the least? A lot of prints with edits, cuts in them.....none of the prints really were anything to brag about. In fact the Hubie/Burt cartoon looks worse than what one would see on bad public domain discs of the 90's. Tons of scratches....light/darkness issues. And the cartoon with the Marx brothers isn't on my disc. Again....shouldn't complain as it's a fundraiser disc....but overall this set was on a par or even worse than a lot of the old public domain discs one would get at Dollar Tree et al. A couple rarities....but the Crunch Bird did nothing for me. Guess I'll say.....hope for better next time. As someone who's bought all (or nearly all) of the discs....I'd be hard pressed to recommend it. Sorry.

Hi,

I had no problems with the Blue-ray disc with either my Sony blue ray player or my Pioneer Elite 3d player.

My apologies that the print of House Hunting Mice was so horrible. It's a 16mm Cinecolor print. I know of one other collector with one, and his is poorly registered. Cinecolor didn't really put much care into its 16mm prints, as opposed to the 35mm prints, which are gorgeous. But, Steve and I thought that since it was rare, especially considering WB itself doesn't have a copy of the original titles, it'd be cool to include it. Evidently, we were wrong. Sorry.

Thad: Just so you know, I really appreciate you guys including cartoons with original titles. 🙂

Perhaps that should be it then. It's clear why no one else is doing anything like this- they're difficult to do, expensive and, some days, thankless!

They always *lose* money, so the old fundraiser term is somewhat of a misnomer. They do help sometimes in that I'm able to put some things that will eventually be on a 'real' set. We always try to put some really cool things on these (this one had a pencil test, a Tex Avery, a 35mm Technicolor Popeye, Scrappy, a Schoolhouse Rock, etc..)- chances are you won't be seeing any of this stuff in an HD transfer otherwise anytime soon. None of these are digitally cleaned up, so they look like the prints do. Sorry you didn't like it.

The cartoon with the Marx Brothers is Cubby's World Flight. It's on the set..perhaps hidden....keep searching!

We've started sending replacements for the Blu-ray issues. Thanks all.

Steve, I would not make decisions on the basis of one person's opinion. I very much appreciate what you offer and believe the majority would agree with me.

Thanks for verifying that. I was almost 100% certain this was a 16mm Cinecolor print; since I'd never seen one before I thought it was cool - the experience, not the print quality. As an Appreciator of Curious Historical Artifacts, Film Division, my thanks to Steve for including it.

Steve should ignore that ellipsis-filled comment. I'm sure that virtually everyone else who gets these "fundraiser" productions is damned glad they're available - because where else would they be? Now that they're in Blu-Ray, I'm even more grateful. Keep it up.

Steve:

I wouldn't let one post get you down.

I have nearly all of the fundraiser discs and have enjoyed them. I have to admit, this one was not my favorite, but I loved getting the Popeye, pencil test, Schoolhouse Rock, and the original "Crunch Bird," which I saw in a theater on its original release lo, those many years ago.

The problems with Blu-Rays are, I believe, big reasons why Blu-Ray has been so slow to catch on. The player seems much more finicky than the conventional DVD players. Your fundraiser disc was not the only disc I have trouble with in my Magnavox player. It has even had trouble with certain DVDs.

Anyway, I think I speak for many of us when I say that we appreciate the care and attention you've given to collecting and sharing these rare specimens of animation's bygone days.

I believe a useful phrase here is "Never look a gift horse in the mouth".

I came late to the game of these special discs, and this is the first time I've ever experienced an issue. It's to Mr. Stanchfield's everlasting credit that he not only makes these discs but is willing to make things right when an unexpected problem pops up.

I must ask something though.

Mr. Stanchfield, you say that these 'fundraiser' discs actually lose you money? If that's the case, as much as I hate to admit it, I would gladly give up these special discs if it meant another method could be used that would truly be of financial help in keeping your company running and these fine collections coming.

I believe Mr. Stanchfield, takes the best elements of rare toons and makes them the best he can, so we can appreciate them on more modern formats to enjoy.

From the above, complaints seem to be Blu-Ray specific. It may be due to a bad batch of blanks. I have crossed that issue with blank DVD's myself.

Steve is lots more Hi Tech at capture and conversions than I will ever be. I hunt down VHS, Laserdisc, etc.. to capture toons not released on DVD and/or Blu-Ray and seem to have acceptable results. But there are at times issues, the computor glitch, ate up source and/or bad blank media.

For anyone to compare his work to "Public Domain" releases is childish. From my experience with the "Public Domain" VHS's especially, the majority are recorded in "EP" which is a very low quality and almost impossible to capture with hope of having a watchable result.

Another thought, even the "Suits" (Official Sources) have known issues with releases. But I suspect that to be more ignorance on their part than any technical issue.

I salute you Steve, keep up the good work.

If people are having problems with the content of the bonus discs, then I suggest those to stop getting them. Geez, it sounds like some expect these to be gold plated or something.

So sorry I had an opinion on ONE bonus disc. Sticking to the opinion though.

I don't get to partake in these discs all that often, but to me they're all the prizes of my collection. With my kids quickly becoming too cool to spend time with his parents - I can still count on a night in front of the TV with the full family once I announce that a new Thunderbean disc arrived in the mail.

I hope there will be many, many more.

Received my replacement Blu-ray on Friday also. Works fine. Thanks, Steve!

Can't find Cubby's World Flight, though. Looked at the files on the disc and didn't see any extra video files. Same with the DVD.

That original 16mm Cinecolor print of House Hunting Mice was absolutely worth including on the set. The quality may be less than stellar, but it is what it is. Thanks, Thad and Steve.

I love these special sets and you have my support for more of them.
