Some of you have noticed the new logo I've been experimenting with on the GAC Archive pages. If you haven't, then behold:

https://intanibase.com/gac_archives/lantz/index.aspx

I've receieved comments, some positive, some negative about the use of AI to create the logo. To wit, while some are excited about the new look, others believe that it is taking work away from struggling artists.

But we need a new logo. The old one is looking too old school. I created it myself and frankly, my own artistic skills are not that great. Also, I've made no secret of the fact the we struggle financially to keep this site afloat (I am retired and on a fixed income) so I just can't afford to pay what it might take to have one professionally created. I completely understand the argument about supporting creative artistry against AI (especially on a site that celebrates creative artistry), still, the balance between what I want to do here and what I can afford to do finaancially (and time-wise as well) is a fight I get into with myself every day.

That being said, I would like to hear your opinions and I leave it up to you. In the immortal words of The Clash, should it stay or should it go?

If this were the TTTP days with so many members posting every day, I'd suggest a contest, but "those days are gone".

My advice is not to use AI.

I do have a fun way of how to create a new logo; hold a contest and the winner will have their artwork as the new IAD logo.

First off, I'd like to thank you for taking the critiques about the use of generative AI seriously. To some, the logo may be "just an image", but in the long run, the casual use of such services adds up in a negative way. As a member since 2015, the possibility that this site could even think of touching a technology that has put so many artists out of work and is environmentally destructive for little gain makes me ill.

Regarding a contest - last time we held one was in 2017, and only one user ever entered that one. This forum doesn't get a lot of traction. That said, I am an artist myself, and while things are hectic in real life at the moment, I'd be happy to talk about creating a logo for the site (either commissioned or requested). Another idea would be to have artists on the site collectively contribute to a new logo.

For now, I would strongly implore you to remove any traces of the genAI logo from the site. GenAI has frankly become a mark of death for most creatives. Please don't tank the site's credibility by going with it.

We're not sure about the idea on approaching for a contest to do a new logo for the Lantz forum, but it's not impossible.

As co-mod I'm willing to step up and produce a new logo. I can even have it done on Tuesday. Message me on Facebook Patrick, and we can discuss this further

The AI generated logo has been removed from the website. The only vestige that remains is that is was used as the watermark on some of the screenshot sets and will be remove as I have the time.

As we have two people who have volunteered their services, (S. C. MacPeter and PopKorn Kat) why don't you both give me a rough sample of what you may be thinking and we'll go from there. I can't afford to pay much, but I can promise some form of renumeration.

Patrick, I would like to sincerely thank you for removing the AI-generated logo from the site. Again, I've been busy, but I can work on concept sketches as soon as I am able. Should I send the sketches via e-mail, PMs, or something else? (I don't have Facebook)
