Once again, it's that time of year at The Ohio Theatre where they have the annual CAPA Summer Movie Theater (which will run through middle of July this time rather than the end of the month). Which means it's time for the Cartoon Capers screenings. As usual, there are two screenings which are a selection of theatrical cartoons from the Warner Bros. library (with an intermission in between) shown digitally on the big screen at the historic theatre with a big crowd.
Today was the first of the two screenings and here's my recap. Note that like the last few years, there was no program flyer and I had to write list in my notebook with not much light. Anyway, here's today's line-up:

2023 Cartoon Capers June 24

To Hare is Human (Warners, 1956)

Little School Mouse (MGM, 1954)

Ghosks is the Bunks (Fleischer, 1939)

Scaredy Cat (Warners, 1948)

Garden Gopher (MGM, 1950)- Edited.

Stop! Look! and Hasten! (Warners, 1954)

The Mechanical Monsters (Fleischer, 1941)- Altered DVD version

Acrobatty Bunny (Warners, 1946)

Dr. Jeckell and Mr. Mouse (MGM, 1947)

Fresh Airedale (Warners, 1945)

Dance of the Weed (MGM, 1941)- I cannot get away from this short.

Daffy Duck Hunt (Warners, 1949)

Hospitaliky (Fleischer, 1937)

The Grey Hounded Hare (Warners, 1949)

Please stay tuned for the line-up of the July 15 screening.

Last Saturday morning was second of the two "Cartoon Capers" screenings at The Ohio Theatre as part of CAPA's Summer Movies Series. Usually, it would be shown at the end of the month, but the event has been shortened as the theatre is getting ready to show the Frozen stage musical in a few weeks. As usual, the second screening was packed more than the first, perhaps more so as there was also a book festival happening at the nearby Downtown Columbus Library. Anyway, here is the list of the line-up:

2023 Cartoon Capers July 15

Sahara Hare (Warners, 1955)- The speakers weren't turned on for the first twenty seconds!

Designs on Jerry (MGM, 1955)

Satan's Waitin' (Warners, 1954)

Billion Dollar Limited (Fleischer, 1942)- Modified DVD version

Rocket-Bye Baby (Warners, 1956)

Lost and Foundry (Fleischer, 1937)

My Favorite Duck (Warners, 1942)

Hillbilly Hare (Warners, 1950)

Cueball Cat (MGM, 1950)

Mouse and Garden (Warners, 1960)

The Twisker Pitcher (Fleischer, 1937)

A Bear for Punishment (Warners, 1951)

The Mad Maestro (MGM, 1939)- The sound seemed unrestored.

Overall, it was a great turn out, although, I wish "Punishment" was the show closure instead of "Maestro". Here's to next year.
