I'm sure a few of you have seen this by now. The Bugs Bunny Video Guide is reporting news on two new Looney Tune releases this year

The first, a DVD called Best of WB 100th, is likely a repurpose of material from older releases (10 cartoons on DVD), and likely all double dips. It comes out March 28th

The second, Looney Tunes Collectors Choice Volume 1 (!), a Blu-Ray sounds like what was being discussed on another thread, a release with new HD restorations fixing the Photoshopped titles. It comes out May 30th. We'll likely learn more about both later

Here are images from Studio Distribution Services from the post, of course, I give credit to TBBVG/Greg Method for said images

The name "Collector's Choice" implies something meaty and substantial made with collectors in mind.

OTOH, optimism for anything coming out of Warner is foolhardy. For all we know this could be a double dip smorgasbord.

The 10-Film collection sounds like it would be 10 movies, not shorts.

That sounds very good!! 👍 Hopefully this happens and sells well enough for more volumes!

I always come to TTTP in Exile in the hope of finding news about Warner announcing Tex Avery Collection.

If this is just Platinum Collection repeats, that would make no goddamn sense. They could just as easily reprint the Platinum Collections like they did the Tom and Jerry Golden Collection.

It says a lot about how badly WB has fucked things up that the gut reaction to a new release has to be cynicism.

I just emailed Jerry about this news and he is not too happy about the info partly being leaked out already. Personally, I feel like this thread should be temporarily closed until we get more info on this.

Plus, I'm getting tired of this cynicism attitude from fans that almost expect to get the moon and more from these releases. You can't always get what you want.

I don’t think it’s worth mulling over how other people feel. I also think it’s unrealistic to ask that the thread be closed because leaked or not, this is super exciting and opens up many topics of discussion.

That being said, I think a lot of people would be very interested to see Jerry’s email…

Either set has not been properly announced yet. I'm willing to bet he cannot answer a lot of questions yet due to NDA

That implies he has involvement with the set, and this isn't being thrown together by the retail arm without his or George's knowledge.

If this was just something the retail arm were throwing together willy nilly, why would he even care about the leak?

Until more information on these sets is released, all one can really do is speculate, unfortunately.

It's incredible how some people can take it upon themselves to practically ask that a thread be closed when all that's being discussed is publicly available information.

What I shared is from a public website that The Bugs Video Guide can see, and publish without issue. That said, it isn't a proper announcement and NDAs are still tied into these things. Those sorta announcements are made 1-2 months before the disc release, so don't expect WB or folks involved to talk about it until then. I think Jerry is upset because it shouldn't be announced early like this, because people will ask questions all over the place instead of being patient.

That said, I do expect good things from the Collector's Choice set, what would really sell me are cartoons that haven't been remastered for HBO Max or for new packages elsewhere (ex. MeTV), since I expect it to be a grab bag of one offs mainly using those remasters. It is best to wait at the moment and see what happens, though remain optimistic at least, I don't see a reason to doubt it as a repeat set for two reasons

1. Warner has never done a set like that for Blu-ray, and I don't think their starting with that because...

2. The title implies collectors above families are the ideal buyer

According to to the BB Video Guide's FB page, the DVD versions of the Platinum Collections are getting reprinted as a big box set, with a slipcover.

It would be trivial and cost virtually nothing for the Warner Archive to just reprint the platinum collections, like they did the Tom and Jerry Golden Collection. So, wasting disc space on platinum collection double dips would be pointless and stupid.

I thought back to the first two Avery sets and how they grouped certain characters and series, maybe Collector's Choice may do this? Bringing this up since it's relevant to the past few sets

This issue with that is that WHV's idea of appealing to collectors is to burden the set with expensive knickknacks. The Steelbook and shot glass of the first Platinum Collection and the Funko Pop of the Bugs 80th.

IF they cut out that ****, and used the money they spend on "collectible" tchotchkes on more discs with more cartoons, they could easily knock out most of the not-on-Blu cartoons for the major characters in a few sets. The one-shots and Bosko/Buddy/B&W Porky could be done by WAC instead.

Since most of the cartoons have been restored already, this could be done. But I don't expect WB to not find a way to **** it up.

January is almost over, and still nothing official has been said about Collector's Choice. The 10-Film DVD collection is coming out later and we know exactly what that's going to contain, and the cover art.

It could be the most exciting Looney Tunes release since the last Golden Collection, or it could be a nothingburger filled with Platinum Collection double dips.

And it's the only indication that 2023 will be any different from 2022 in terms of classic animation because no one wants to say anything.

That's because the forums aren't very active here.

Warner Archive releases (animation ones at least) don't get announced this far in advance. Think back to the Popeye and Avery sets and how official word didn't come out for those until a month or so prior to release. The release date is expected to be May 30th as per the first post in this thread, and it seems that the info posted on the Studio Distribution Services website regarding Collector's Choice wasn't supposed to be published so early and is likely an oversight, hence why no words have been spoken about it yet. They will likely talk about it in late March or early May.

I'd be willing to bet it may be brought up during Stu's Show, or at least further hints about it. Again, it's clearly not finished yet and still has NDAs attached

Probably by that time, official news might be already out on the release.

But this isn't a Warner Archive release. It's a mainline WHV release, and those do get announced well in advance. The Bugs 80th set was announced in July of 2020, and that didn't come out until November.

We already know what the contents of the 10-film collection are, and that's not getting released until June.
