You know, my mom always used to say to me "WHY DON'T YOU GET OUT OF THE BATHROOM AND GIVE SOMEONE ELSE A CHANCE!" But beyond that, she used to say that if there's questions about a source, go right to the source to get clarification. I had a chance to chat with Jerry Beck himself this afternoon; here is what he had to say:
It seems that some of the people on this forum have turned separate statements made into a convoluted game of "telephone", mashing things together so that no one knows who said what. ...
Wiley says: "No need to panic, everyone! Someone contacted HBO Max about this, and it turns out the 1951-2004 Looney Tunes shorts being removed was just temporary due to a maintenance check. When I learned this, I let out a big "PHEW!"
Also, Jerry Beck stated that Warner Bros.- Discovery is re-restoring those newly-restored shorts on HBO Max, possibly to fix all those weird Photoshop errors and such, so it's likely that "maintenance check" is part of the re-restore procedure." ...
To break that down - My only quote is (which isn't entirely accurate) is: "Warner Bros.- Discovery is re-restoring those newly-restored shorts on HBO Max, possibly to fix all those weird Photoshop errors and such". Nothing else is attributed to me (nor was said by me). I believe that quote was a version of something I said on Stu's Show. The "true" part of that mis-quote is that Warner Archive Collection (of which I consult to George Feltenstein) IS indeed re-restoring the Photoshop errors on HBO-Max's Looney Tunes... for a future use still to be determined. ...
To clarify: Warner Archive Collection has NOTHING to do with HBO-Max (other than HBO-Max has been using restorations Warner Archive Collection previously made for DVD and blu-ray release). ... Warner Archive Collection (physical media) is a separate division from HBO-Max (streaming); what happens in one division is unknown to the folks in another division. I do not know what HBO-Max is doing. I have no idea why they pulled the post-1950 cartoons off the service. From what I can see, I don't think the people running HBO-Max understand how important the classic cartoons are to the service. I hope they return - or show up somewhere else soon.
