Disney has recently announced that in light of all the live-action remakes of their animated classics, Pixar is going to take a crack at remaking something, except this time it's a CGI-animation remake of a hand-drawn animated film: "The Brave Little Toaster" from 1987!
Jim Morris, CEO of Pixar, says that this will be a fun project, given how many Pixar veterans worked on the original, and some are still with the company. He claimed that the late Joe Ranft would probably be proud, but had no comment on John Lasseter, whom also worked on the original. But those still with Pixar that worked on the original are quite eager to help remake such a classic they helped make possible!
Jerry Rees is set to co-direct with Lee Unkrich, whom stated "We enjoyed paying tribute to 'The Brave Little Toaster' with our 'Toy Story 3,' and now we actually get to do it for real! Lasseter would've been ecstatic."
Much of the original surviving voice cast members will be reprising their roles. David Newman is also being brought in to re-record his original score for the film. The vocal pieces from the original, including "It's a B-Movie," "Cutting Edge" and the morbid-but-memorable "Worthless," will also be included, but the original soundtrack recordings from the 1987 film will be utilized. "Those original recordings are timeless," David Newman says. "Why redo something that's already perfect?" And with that, he gave a look at Disney CEO Bob Iger.
The film is scheduled for a release in 2022, to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the original film. Here's
