Although it may be four or ten months early, there is one thing I cannot wait to celebrate this year: Mickey Mouse's 90th anniversary!

With the mouse's birthday coming up this year, what things would you either love or like to see released in commemoration?
Here's my wish list:
-A Blu-ray release of any of Mickey's shorts, whether it be black-and-white, color, or even both
-A book similar to the Oswald book from months back featuring information on the production of each Mickey Mouse short
-A Legacy Collection/Silly Symphony-style release of the soundtracks to the shorts whose soundtrack recordings are still known to exist

What else would you like to see?

A full-blown celebration at the Disney Parks! Honestly, if something's this big a deal, Disney should let people know about it.

I would like to see a TV special of the Mickey TV series celebrating his 90th birthday if they have plans to do one this year.

My wishlist:

-DVD/Blu-ray collections of the classic Disney shorts (I'll even take a compilation release)

-The Stooge starring Mickey Mouse and Roger Rabbit

I heartily agree. Isn't it unbelievable that such a release has been requested for years, and yet Walt Disney Home Entertainment mainly focuses on re-releasing its newest and best-selling movies?

Whether it be a compilation or chronological collection, we may get one this year considering this event is coming up and the majority of the Disney library has been restored in 4K!

Considering the current-day condition of the Mickey television shows and shorts, I'm guessing we'll just be seeing marathons and regular episodes revolving around the celebration. Both a television special and, better yet, a marathon of any of the shorts, would be awesome!

I'd say a new theatrical animated short form Walt Disney Animation Studios (I don't care what Aaron is doing at Television Animation).

So Disney indeed has plans to celebrate Mickey's anniversary.....by launching a fashion lineup and holding a massive ceremony about its launch at Disneyland.

We get it, Disney, but you're overlooking what made Mickey famous in the first place: the animated shorts that quite a lot of us here are fans of, and haven't been available in a comprehensive and chronological (sort of) collection on home video for -13 years. These shorts have entertained many people for decades and are certainly the material that introduced our favorite mouse to the world, and yet you're doing virtually nothing about them. You may have released every one of them mainly through the Walt Disney Treasures and a lot of them again on budget compilations for those who didn't want to pay $33 for a bunch of them, but you've restored almost all your animated short subjects in HD and for those to not be seen on home video is a waste.

Who's with me? [mickey]

Well, I know they're making a "new" Mickey short and an ABC-TV special.

I did read a bit about the ABC special, but what about the new short? Is it theatrical or is it one of those SpongeBob-esque shorts that air on the Disney Channel? (No offense to those who enjoy them, but I don't care about those at all)

Better yet, has Toonatic's petition worked and are we going to get a collection of Mickey shorts on Blu-ray?

It's, unfortunately, the later. I sometimes wonder if Aaron has something against Walt.

Then I'm not going to bother. The television shorts either lack whatever charm or spirit that made the original cartoons entertaining in the first place or, in a couple of cases, go too far and sacrifice Mickey's true personality for gags that heavily mirror modern SpongeBob in both structure and compatibility. (And excuse my flawed wording, "structure" seems to be a better word than "gross-out" in this regard)

If they're going to push those further and leave Mickey's filmography unavailable to those who can't stomach eBay and their insane Treasures pricing or the (time-)compressed, sometimes edited (or colorized) uploads on YouTube, then I don't approve of all their plans. The only things that interest me the most so far are their "True Original" branding, the D23 Gold Member gift that was described in what I read, the Disney Store collection, and whatever may be coming out from their publishing company.

Six months since I made my list of what I would like to see out of this anniversary, it turns out that there's indeed going to be a book along the lines of this - only even better than I had initially imagined!

Here's the article where I found out about it . After an underwhelming start this year, things are certainly looking up now!

Yes, the massive Mickey book should be really something special. Daniel Kothenschulte is the editor, but I read on Didier Ghez's Disney Books site that it's also by with David Gerstein and JB Kaufman. We can probably expect lots of new information and previously unpublished artwork.

Today, Disney announced that ABC will broadcast Mickey's 90th Spectacular, a 2-hour, star-studded special that will be filmed at the Shrine Auditorium and air on Sunday, November 4th at 8:00pm (E/P). Read more here.

In October, Disney will release Celebrating Mickey, a collection of 13 classic cartoons on Blu-ray and Digital HD for the first time ever.

And Disney will also host Mickey: The True Original, an interactive art exhibit in New York City from November 8, 2018 to February 10, 2019.

Here's a little more on the Mickey Art Exhibit:

For me, the book is still the most exciting project announced for Mickey's 90th so far.

Funny thing in that video is that I have that wall clock hanging on the wall right next to me as I'm typing. We got it at Target over twenty years ago.

Why haven't they re-released the BW Mickey shorts yet with their original titles?
