While I was watching one of the WB Kids videos which featured 2 clips from "Pup on a Picnic" in this video  at 5:18 and 13:31. I noticed the cartoon is presented in its original uncropped Cinemascope aspect ratio with the sides shown.

For those that don't know, on the notorious "Tom & Jerry Spotlight Collection Vol. 3" DVD, the cartoon is presented in a cropped 16:9 aspect ratio, where the sides are cropped loosing some information on the video. It can be proven on this page  at the Tom & Jerry Wiki which I added information to recently.

Who are "we all"?? I can't remember seeing anyone talking about this short's release on the Spotlight Collection as a "fake widescreen version" (i.e. a widescreen crop of the Academy ratio version). It's widely known that "Pup on a Picnic" was one of the four T&J shorts to be released both in Academy ratio and Cinemascope back in the mid-fifties. (Ideally, a perfect DVD/Blu-ray edition should include BOTH ratio versions of these four shorts... but that's probably dreaming by this point.)

What we don't know is why Warner cropped the Cinemascope print of this particular film to 16:9 for the Spotlight Collection release. Seems like a pure mistake, considering all the other shorts are in full Cinemascope. But clearly, they RESTORED it in the full Scope ratio, just like they did with all the widescreen shorts.

For the record, the version Warner Bros. has on YouTube for 99 cents IS the CinemaScope version of Pup on a Picnic. It's only in SD, but that's no worse than it would have been on the previous DVD set.

Well that's good, so at least they have it for to watch for only almost a dollar which is not that much.

I purchased this cartoon and various Golden Collection 2 entries on YouTube a year ago. It's a shame that they're DRM-protected, because I want to be able to save them onto my laptop for my own private screening purposes, and I don't know how to get around that.

I think using Bandicam  is a way to get past that.

@Luckytoon: Fraps would be better to use in my opinion.

BTW: If you have an access to German Amazon Prime you can get almost all remastered T&JGC2 shorts (without Mouse Cleaning and Casanova Cat, because instead of both shorts Posse Cat and Puppy Tale were restored).

No thanks, I'm use to Bandicam. But feel free to use Fraps yourself, I don't have nothing against you.

Anyways, I don't use Amazon Prime to be honest (although I do have an Amazon account). And besides, a friend of mine "Mihai Alexandru Chetreanu" has uploaded most of the restored T&JGC2 shorts on his Dailymotion channel and his 2 Vimeo channels as well.

Ack! They showed the Spotlight version on TV the other week here. :/ I could tell it was double cropped, because the camera would scan up to look at a facial expression and then back down.
