As you may have already guessed, I'm on the hunt for restored cartoon shorts. So far, I've gotten my hands on the Looney Tunes Golden Collection sets, Popeye the Sailor: 1933-1938, Tom and Jerry Golden Collection: Volume 1, Porky Pig 101, Looney Tunes Mouse Chronicles: The Chuck Jones Collection, Warner Bros. Family Entertainment Academy Awards Animation Collection: 15 Winners/26 Nominees, Bugs Bunny Superstar (Warner Archive re-release), Private Snafu Golden Classics, Technicolor Dreams and Black-and-White Nightmares, and Woody Woodpecker and Friends Classic Cartoon Collection (Volumes 1 and 2). I've heard that Warner has released a handful of Tom and Jerry entries in the transfers that were supposed to be available on the second Golden Collection (specifically Jerry and the Goldfish and The Little Runaway) in various DVD releases. Are these the new transfers, or are they the Turner copies?

Ah, you're talking about Tom and Jerry: Santa's Little Helpers. Yes, a selection of cartoons originally set for GC V2 are on there with the new GC transfers PLUS a restored print of Jerry, Jerry, Quite Contrary (in original full screen!). Only cons is that Pecos Pest is the current unrestored transfer and the cinemascope shorts are cropped to full screen.

Can we just have this as a single thread for this topic, Jason? I know you are enthusiastic on restoration, but we don't want multiple topics on it flooding this forum (I think I mention this before).

That's why I created this thread. We can talk about restorations of not just Tom and Jerry, but other classic animated properties.

What I really want to know is, which cartoons from Golden Collection Volume 2 are available on DVD, and where?

As Toonatic pointed out, some GCV2 shorts can be found on the "Santa's Little Helpers" DVD, which also has a fullscreen version of Jerry, Jerry, Quite Contrary. There have been some new single-disc releases with shorts that were supposed to be on the Golden Collection, but I don't know if they're the Spotlight Collection masters or the Golden Collection masters.

The only reason I'm even asking this is because WB's YouTube channel has posted preview footage of select shorts from the Golden Collection--in the same masters that were supposed to be available on that set. Seeing that makes me wanna buy whatever sets those masters are available on SOOOOOO badly!

I've seen some "budget" discs online here and on FYE, and if I'm not mistaken, they're very recent (one, "Follow That Duck!", was released last year as far as I know). Does anyone have these (I certainly don't), and can you clarify whether or not they use the Golden Collection masters?
