Well, this was unexpected. Could other WB cartoon collections be on the drawing board?

Yahoo! Yahoo! Yahoo! I know Jerry was hinting at a release for a while, but I still didn't see this coming!

The only question is what is the other color cartoon going to be? There were at least three color cartoons from the pre-1943 era, "Old Glory", "Yankee Doodle Daffy" and "My Favorite Duck".

EDIT: Probably "Old Glory", like Duck Dodgers said. The press release said that the two color cartoons were going to be Merrie Melodies.

This is excellent news and I'm completely geeked about this! I have an Amazon gift card that I got for my anniversary that's been waiting for something worthwhile!

On a side note, we researchers have notice lately that Warners has gotten more diligent about asserting their copyright over online sources such as YouTube and our own Daily Motion channel. I'm wondering if this is the reason; that they are cracking down on online streaming sources in order to pave the way for more legitimate DVD or Blu Ray releases.

YES! Finally a Looney Tunes DVD containing all of the black & white cartoons featuring [porky] all remastered and in their original black and white presentations! Just what I've been waiting for, the longest time! I can't wait to get this! :D

For those that remember when I mentioned on this forum that I wish WB would release the remaining black & white Looney Tunes on DVD, well my wish was half granted. But this does mean that there will not be that many of the remaining B&W LT cartoons that have yet to be remastered onto DVD and/or Blu Ray (mainly the Beans only cartoons, solo Daffy cartoons, and the 40's one-shot black and whites) which is good for WB on their restoration budget.

Here's the list of the non-Porky Pig B&W Looney Tunes that have yet to be released in remastered quality on DVD:

1. The Phantom Ship (1936, Jack King) [beans]

3. The Haunted Mouse (1941, Tex Avery)

You're correct, it will include "Old Glory" I know for sure since they are only including Porky's appearances in the 30's Technicolor Merrie Melodies.

Did anybody suspect a release like this for the Warner Archive release that would be announced? I know many were expecting it to be a Tex Avery MGM or post-1964 WB release, I can't remember if anybody was discussion the possibility of a B&W Porky Pig set.

According to Jerry Beck on Stu's Show, the new-to-DVD shorts are restored, but from the interpositives and not the original negatives.

Question though, every time I count I count to 100. What am I missing???

"Restored" means something else. These are new TRANSFERS, which is fine as long as the source material is in good shape (and there's no reason to think it isn't).

By "quality standard" on Blu Ray they often mean no scratches or dirt in the video. If you noticed on the Platinum Collection discs they took the old GC masters and digitally removed all the dirt on them.

B&W shorts anyway do not need all the color correction process but only the black/white levels need to be adjusted, so they should look good anyway.

I did do a discussion back then about that WB needs to release all the remaining pre-1943 B&W Looney Tunes on DVD and/or Blu Ray in remastered quality and uncut.
