What cartoons have seemed like odd choices for various video releases of classic animated shorts? They may have featured the spotlighted character or follow the theme of the video somehow, and yet, despite that, they still feel like odd choices?
For this, we probably shouldn't count double-dips (or higher-dips) as odd choices just because they had been on video before (maybe if it had previously been in a video in the same collection), and we probably shouldn't count the cartoons in the Looney Tunes Golden Jubilee collection that don't star the featured character (since those were such a regular part of those videos), not sure about videos outside of that series that had cartoons without the featured character (if it wasn't an "..and Friends" release).
Here's some things that I feel are odd choices:
- What's Up, Doc? in Elmer Fudd's Comedy Capers. It involves Bugs telling his show biz story, and Elmer doesn't show up until halfway through the cartoon.
- Person to Bunny in Stars of Space Jam: Daffy Duck and Daffy Duck: Frustrated Fowl. While Daffy has a big part in it, it belongs more on a Bugs Bunny release. Daffy and Elmer both have their own separate plotlines and hardly interact in the short (there's the scene where Bugs tricks Daffy into thinking Elmer's gun is a camera, and the part where Elmer sees Daffy dressed as Bugs and thinks he is Bugs).
- This is a Life? on Yosemite Sam's Yeller Fever and Daffy Duck: Frustrated Fowl. You might notice a pattern in shorts about Bugs in show business being on releases spotlighting other characters in the shorts. This would go better in a Bugs or Elmer release. In the case of Yosemite Sam, he doesn't really come in until about the last two minutes, and while Daffy's part is a little bigger, I still feel it's not that big.
- China Jones and My Daffy Duckaroo in Porky Pig Tales. Daffy is really the star of those, with Porky a sidekick in the former (and I feel he gets less to do in that than in other shorts where he's the sidekick) and a supporting character in the later (who I think functions independently of Daffy.
- The non-Marvin cartoons (Lumber Jack Rabbit and Hyde and Go Tweet) in Marvin the Martian: 50 Years on Earth. Unlike the non-Marvin cartoons in the original Marvin the Martians: Space Tunes, these two don't have anything to do with space at all. Why not include Martian Through Georgia? Or maybe further complete Marvin's filmography by including Superior Duck and Another Froggy Evening, which include him in cameos (those two had been produced by then, right?)
- Drip-Along Daffy in Carrotblanca. All of the other shorts either take place in a movie theater or on a movie set (with The Scarlett Pumpernickle being presented as a film pitched by Daffy). I know, Carrotblanca is none of those, either, but at least it's a specific parody (while Drip-Along Daffy is a genre spoof). Why not include Blooper Bunny? Or A Star is Bored? Or Rodent to Stardom? Or (especially if they just wanted to repeat cartoons from the Golden Jubilee) Past Perfumance?
