There was a Hanna-Barbera directed boat cartoon where [tom] &[jerry] watch a previous cartoon complete with MGM lion when the clip starts at the boat's theater..........

any help?

You're thinking of "Cruise Cat" (1952). The cartoon shown was "Texas Tom" (1950).

Exactly, and I do have that cartoon on the VHS of "Tom & Jerry: Whiskers Away!"
