NOTE: You can find the original conversation here: http://www.intanibase.com/oldforum/index.php?topic=1934.0 Recap: In May 2014, Viz Media
announced that they had acquired the rights to the original Sailor Moon as well as the brand new Sailor Moon Crystal series, which debuted on July 5th, 2014. Viz also announced that they would be doing a new dub for the original, completely uncut.
The first 23 episodes of the new dub came out on September 5th, 2014 (1-4) and September 7th, 2014 (5-23) on Hulu and Neon Alley. The second batch of episodes (24-36) came out on November 21st, 2014, with the rest (37-46) on December 6th, 2014. This now means that the entire first season of Sailor Moon is now fully redubbed.
The first Blu-Ray/DVD set arrived on November 11th, 2014 containing the first 23 episodes of the show. The Blu-Rays were criticized for a ghosting image (even though imo, it can barely be seen in motion - I highly recommend the set). The second Blu-Ray/DVD set is scheduled to arrive on February 10th, 2015 (although if you ordered from RightStuf, they ship out a week early!)
The subtitled version of the original Sailor Moon is currently on the 2nd season, Sailor Moon R (episodes 69-70 were released this past Monday). Two new episodes are put up every "Moonday."
Sailor Moon Crystal is currently being released in a subtitled format, with no announcement of a dub release yet from Viz. The show has nearly wrapped up the Dark Kingdom Arc of the series, with the 14th episode (debuting on January 17th, 2015) wrapping up that arc and beginning the Black Moon Arc. New episodes are put up on Niconico, Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Neon Alley every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month (Note: some months have 5 Saturdays instead of 4, so some episodes may have a 3 week waiting period before release instead of 2).
Please comment below if I left out anything important in my recap.
