Cartoon Discussion of the Week-April 29th 2012-Robot Rumpus
« on: April 29, 2012, 03:32:43 pm »
Welcome to CDOTW. :) Today I have an original 1950's Gumby short called Robot Rumpus. Why do I think it is a good short. Well, for one thing, I just saw the original 11 minute version of the film this morning(I've only seen the MST3K Version until now), so I can say that the film is an enjoyable one. My favorite parts would be the Robots attacking the house, a Robot attacking Gumbo, and a lot of other parts(too many to name). Now, I've explained it, blah, blah, blah, here are the links:
7 Minute Version(Original Soundtrack)(Original 11 Min. Version Isn't Avaiable Online): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsBIncsQ-Nk
7 Minute Version(Newer Soundtrack w/Gumby Bumper): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vb5M3iWM72Q
MST3K 7 Minute Version(For The Laughs ;D): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BrSUedWoPY
Now, blah, blah, blah, discuss the short. :)
I love classic cartoons!

I saw the version with the newer soundtrack through Nickelodeon before I ever saw the version with the original soundtrack through "Mystery Science Theater 3000".  I missed the longer version presented by Me-TV on Saturday due to its early time slot of 4:00 AM (Central).

Even though I never liked "Robot Rumpus" very much, especially the ending with the way Gumbo and Gumba stared at Gumby, I enjoyed the yell by Gumbo in the newer soundtrack after he gets thrown out of the hole. The yell sounded nothing like his regular voice (I remember an episode with Gumby having a deep voice when he yelled).

I've seen the full version on KTV recently and got the "Gumby Essentials" DVD few months ago.

I've wondered that the scene where the truck "bouncing" while the robot holding onto something might've given the inspiration for lowriders.

I did a comparison of the "Robot Rumpus" short with the original soundtrack and the redub combined!

Whenever I watch this short, regardless of it being the original soundtrack or not, I just can't help but add the riffs ("One of my classmates died in the kiln today, mother!")

IO hjave this..The original stock music was by Henry Russell, John Seely, jack Cookerly, Emil Cadkin, Bill Loose, Geordie Hormelo, and Phil Green far as I know. I love the scene mentioned here at the end with Gumbo and Gumba staring then Pokey looking symphatetically..
